Claims
- 1. A method of covering a substrate with a heat recoverable sheet material comprising the steps of:
- a. overlappingly wrapping said sheet material about said substrate:
- b. disposing a patch over a line defined by the uppermost of the overlapping end, said patch comprising:
- (i) a layer of cross-linked polymer and means for retaining the line before, during and after heat recovery of said sheet material;
- (ii) the retaining means including means centrally located on the patch for retaining the line before and during heat recovery consisting of a pressure sensitive adhesive with reinforcing means for preventing movement of the pressure sensitive with respect to the polymer during heat recovery;
- (iii) the retaining means further including means for retaining the line after heat recovery occupying the remainder of the surface of the patch consisting of heat-activatable adhesive.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the patch in step (b) is symetrically disposed over the line.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the patch and sheet are heated simultaneously.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the patch is pressed into close contact with said material on either side of said line after both the sheet material and the patch have been heated.
