Claims
- 1. A dry matrix patch for tooth whitening, comprising:a peroxide tooth whitening agent; and a peroxide-compatible hydrophilic glass polymer as a base polymer, the patch being able, when applied to the teeth of a user, to provide adhesion to enamel and release the tooth whitening agent upon becoming hydrated; wherein the hydrophilic glass polymer is selected from the group consisting of polyalkylvinylether-maleic acid copolymer, polyvinyl alcohol, polyacrylic acid, Poloxamer 407, polyvinyl pyrrolidone-vinyl acetate copolymer, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, Polyquaterium-11, Polyquaterium-39, carbomer, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, gelatin, sodium alginate and mixtures thereof.
- 2. The patch of claim 1, comprising a stabilizer for the peroxide.
- 3. The patch of claim 2, wherein the stabilizer is selected from the group consisting of alkylaryl suiphonates, alkyl suiphates, alkylcarboxylates, alkyldiphenyloxide disuiphonates, sorbitan stearate, sorbitan inonooleate, sorbitan trioleate, and mixtures thereof.
- 4. The patch of claim 1, comprising a polyphosphate.
- 5. The patch of claim 4, wherein the polyphosphate is selected from the group consisting of tetrasodium pyrophosphate, sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate, sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium potassium tripolyphosphate, tetrapotassium pyrophosphate, acidic sodium metapolyphosphate and combinations therof.
- 6. The patch of claim 1, comprising a backing.
- 7. The patch of claim 6, wherein the backing comprises a polymer selected from the group consisting of cellulose acetate phthalate, Shellac, polyvinylacetate, ethyl cellulose, polymethylmethacrylate, methacryloylethl betain/methacrylate copolymer, methacrylic acid copolymer, aminoalkylmethacrylate copolymers, and mixtures thereof.
- 8. The patch of claim 6, wherein the backing comprises a pigment selected from the group consisting of titanium dioxode, surface treated titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, hydroxy apatite, talc, pearl, and mixtures thereof.
- 9. The patch of claim 6, comprising an adhesive layer and a backing layer, wherein the adhesive layer comprises the hydrophilic glass polymer.
- 10. A formulation for tooth whitening, comprising:a peroxide tooth whitening agent; and a peroxide-compatible hydrophilic glass polymer as a base polymer, wherein the hydrophilic glass polymer is selected from the group consisting of polyalkylvinylether-maleic acid copolymer, polyvinyl alcohol, polyacrylic acid, Poloxamer 407, polyvinyl pyrrolidone-vinyl acetate copolymer, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, Polyquaterium-11, Polyquaterium-39, carbomer, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, gelatin, sodium alginate and mixtures thereof; the formulation being able, when applied to the teeth of a user, to provide adhesion to enamel and release the tooth whitening agent upon becoming hydrated.
- 11. The formulation of claim 10, comprising a stabilizer for the peroxide.
- 12. The formulation of claim 11, wherein the stabilizer is selected from the group consisting of alkylaryl suiphonates, alkyl suiphates, alkylcarboxylates, alkyldiphenyloxide disuiphonates, sorbitan stearate, sorbitan monooleate, sorbitan trioleate, and mixtures thereof.
- 13. The formulation of claim 10, comprising, a polyphosphate.
- 14. The formulation of claim 13, wherein the polyphosphate is selected from the group consisting of tetrasodium pyrophosphate, sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate, sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium potassium tripolyphosphate, tetrapotassium pyrophosphate, acidic sodium metapolyphosphate and combinations therof.
- 15. The formulation of claim 10, comprising a backing.
- 16. The formulation of claim 15, wherein the backing comprises a polymer selected from the group consisting of cellulose acetate phthalate, Shellac, polyvinylacetate, ethyl cellulose, polymethylmethacrylate, methacryloylethyl betain/methacrylate copolymer, methacrylic acid copolymer, aminoalkylmethacrylate copolymers, and mixtures thereof.
- 17. The formulation of claim 15, wherein the backing comprises a pigment selected from the group consisting of titanium dioxode, surface treated titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, hydroxy apatite, talc, pearl, and mixtures thereof.
- 18. The formulation of claim 15, comprising an adhesive layer and a backing layer, wherein the adhesive layer comprises the hydrophilic glass polymer.
- 19. A dry patch comprising the formulation of claim 15.
- 20. The dry patch of claim 19, wherein the dry patch comprises a matrix.
