Claims
- 1. A pavement marker having an upper surface useful as a pavement marking indicium and comprising a bottom layer of polyorganosiloxane pressure-sensitive adhesive.
- 2. The pavement marker of claim 1 wherein said marker comprises (1) a sheet having an upper surface useful as a pavement marking indicium and a lower surface, and (2) said bottom layer of adhesive is in intimate contact with said lower surface.
- 3. The pavement marker of claim 2 wherein said sheet comprises a base layer and a top layer attached to and overlying said base layer.
- 4. The pavement marker of claim 2 wherein said sheet further includes a second layer of adhesive underlying and attached to said base layer, said second adhesive layer being interposed between said base layer of said sheet and said polyorganosiloxane pressure-sensitive adhesive layer.
- 5. The pavement marker of claim 4 wherein said interposed layer of adhesive of the sheet comprises a rubber-based pressure-sensitive adhesive.
- 6. The pavement marker of claim 2 wherein said marker further comprises a deformable layer supporting said lower surface of said sheet.
- 7. The pavement marker of claim 1 wherein said polyorganosiloxane pressure-sensitive adhesive layer has a thickness of from about 13 micrometers to about 760 micrometers.
- 8. The pavement marker of claim 1 wherein said pavement marker is a removable marker and said polyorganosiloxane pressure-sensitive adhesive is characterized by a property of substantially nonstaining upon removal following a six month application to concrete pavement.
- 9. The pavement marker of claim 1 wherein said polyorganosiloxane pressure-sensitive adhesive includes polydimethylsiloxane or polydiphenylsiloxane.
- 10. The pavement marker of claim 1 wherein said up surface of said marker includes a release coating which releases polyorganosiloxane pressure-sensitive adhesives.
- 11. The pavement marker of claim 1 further comprising a release liner laminated to the bottom layer of polyorganosiloxane adhesive.
- 12. The pavement marker of claim 1 wherein said marker comprises a raised marker body.
- 13. The pavement marker of claim 12 further comprising a deformable layer supporting the lower surface of said marker body and said pressure-sensitive polyorganosiloxane layer underlying said deformable layer.
- 14. The pavement marker of claim 12 wherein said marker body is rigid.
- 15. The pavement marker of claim 1 wherein said marker comprises (1) a first layer of polyorganosiloxane pressure-sensitive adhesive material, (2) a second layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive material, and (3) a layer of material interposed between said first and second pressure-sensitive adhesive layers, wherein the interposed layer is deformable and characterized by high cohesive strength.
- 16. A method of marking a roadway surface, said method comprising the steps of (1) providing a pavement marker comprising a layer of polyorganosiloxane pressure-sensitive adhesive; and (2) applying said marker to a roadway with said layer of polyorganosiloxane pressure sensitive adhesive surface.
- 17. The method of claim 16 wherein said roadway surface has a temperature below 15.degree. C. when said marker is applied thereto.
- 18. A method of marking a roadway surface, said method comprising the steps of (1) providing a pavement marker having an upper surface useful as a marking indicium and a lower surface, (2) applying a layer of polyorganosiloxane pressure-sensitive adhesive to a roadway surface, and (3) laminating the layer of polyorganosiloxane adhesive on a roadway surface to the lower surface of said pavement marker.
- 19. The method of claim 18 wherein said roadway surface has a temperature below 15.degree. C. when said layer of polyorganisiloxe adhesive is applied thereto.
- 20. A method of preparing a pavement marker, said method comprising the steps of (1) providing a marker body having an upper surface useful as a marking indicium and a lower surface, and (2) laminating a layer of polyorganosiloxane pressure-sensitive adhesive to the lower surface of said body.
