Claims
- 1. An epitaxial thin-film of an alloy of:
- Pb.sub.1-w Cd.sub.w S;
- where 0<w.ltoreq.0.15.
- 2. The epitaxial thin-film set forth in claim 1 comprised of one or more layers of the alloy wherein adjoining layers differ in composition.
- 3. The thin-film set forth in claim 2 further comprised of the film exhibiting a graded energy gap across one of a plurality of orthogonal dimensions.
- 4. The thin-film set forth in claim 3 wherein one of the dimensions is the width of the film.
- 5. The thin-film set forth in claim 4 wherein the profile of the energy gap is parabolic.
- 6. The thin-film set forth in claim 3 wherein one of the dimensions is the thickness of the film.
