Claims
- 1. A pedal assembly comprising:a first pedal lever mounted upon a hub that defines an opening for receiving a shaft wherein said hub and the first pedal lever are rotatably mounted on said shaft, a torsion spring mounted around said shaft wherein compression of said torsion spring maintains the first pedal in a fixed position, and; a second pedal lever rotatably mounted on said shaft.
- 2. A pedal assembly comprising:a parking brake pedal lever mounted upon a shaft wherein said parking brake pedal lever is rotatably mounted on said shaft, a torsion spring mounted round said shaft that engages in response to movement of said parking brake pedal lever wherein engagement of the torsion spring causes the spring to tighten against the shaft, a service brake pedal lever associated with said shaft and; a release lever that disengages said torsion spring.
- 3. A pedal assembly comprising:a parking brake pedal lever associated with and rotatably mounted about a shah, a torsion spring mounted around the shaft, that engages in response to movement of said parking brake pedal lever and tightens against the shaft when the spring is engaged, a release means that disengages said torsion spring a service brake pedal lever associated with and rotatably mounted about a shaft, and; a brake cable that actuates a braking system in response to movement of said parking brake pedal lever.
- 4. An assembly comprising:a parking brake pedal lever that is rotatably mounted on a shaft, a service brake pedal lever rotatably mounted on said shaft, and; a torsion spring mounted around said shaft comprising a first end that contacts the parking brake pedal lever and a second end that is positioned to contact a means for disengaging said torsion spring and wherein said torsion spring engages the shaft when the parking brake pedal is singularly operated and said means for disengaging functions by operating said service brake pedal lever; and, a brake cable that actuates a braking system in response to movement of said parking brake pedal lever.
- 5. An assembly comprising:a parking brake pedal lever that is rotatably mounted on a shaft, a service brake pedal lever rotatably mounted on said shaft wherein the service brake pedal lever is biased into a position relative to the parking brake lever, a torsion spring associated with said shaft, a means for disengaging said torsion spring wherein movement of the service brake into an unbiased position causes operation of means for disengaging the torsion spring thereby preventing the torsion spring from engaging the shaft or causing the torsion spring to disengage, and wherein singular movement of parking brake pedal lever causes said torsion spring to engage the shaft thereby maintaining the parking brake pedal lever in a fixed location, and, a brake cable that actuates a braking system in response to movement of said parking brake pedal lever.
- 6. A pedal assembly comprising:a parking brake pedal lever mounted upon a first hub that defines an opening for receiving a shaft wherein said first hub and the parking brake lever arc rotatably mounted on said shaft wherein said parking brake pedal lever is associated with a cable for actuating a parking brake system, a service brake pedal lever mounted upon a second hub that defines an opening for receiving said shaft wherein said second hub and the service brake lever are rotatably mounted on said shaft, a torsion spring mounted around said shaft that tightens against the shaft when die spring is compressed, and; a release device that disengages said torsion spring.
- 7. The pedal assembly of claim 6 wherein the service brake pedal lever is biased into a position relative to the parking brake lever.
- 8. The pedal assembly of claim 6 wherein the service and parking brake levers define pedal pad areas and wherein the pedal pad area of the service brake is larger than the parking brake pad area.
- 9. A pedal lever assembly comprising:a parking brake pedal lever associated with and rotatably mounted about a shaft, a torsion spring, mounted around the shaft, that compresses against the shaft when the spring is engaged and the compression is sufficient to maintain the parking brake pedal in a fixed position, a release that disengages said torsion spring thereby permitting the parking brake lever to move from the fixed position, and; a service brake pedal lever associated with and rotatably mounted about the shaft.
- 10. The pedal lever assembly of claim 9 wherein the release is activated by movement of the service brake pedal lever.
