Claims
- 1. A hand held heat sealing machine for making cryogenic temperature stable peelable packages for storing and transporting transplantable organs at cryogenic temperatures from a pair of laminated films, each of said films including an inner layer of fluorinated ethylenepropylene copolymer and an outer layer of a thermosetting polyimide, said machine comprising a pair of pliers having an upper moving jaw, a stationary lower jaw and a toggle and spring locking mechanism which releasably locks the upper moving jaw in fixed closed positions, a heating head and a heat shield fixed to said upper moving jaw, said lower stationary jaw including a platen, said platen comprising a silicone cord, said heating head comprising a heated welding bar having a heat temperature range of 635.degree.-665.degree. F., and said pliers being adapted to compress said laminates therebetween to form elongated heat seals to thereby make said films into said packages.
- 2. The machine of claim 1, said platen including feet means.
- 3. The machine of claim 1, wherein said pliers include an adjusting screw and a lock nut on said adjusting screw affixed to said lower stationary jaw to set said jaws repetitiously in the same relative closed position.
- 4. The machine of claim 1, said portion of said machine comprising said pliers with said heating head and said platen thereon being readily portable and sterilizable.
- 5. The machine of claim 1, said heat shield comprising an outer shield, heat insulating and thrust transmitting means interconnecting said heating bar and said outer shield, said last mentioned means comprising a main plate member, first fastener means interconnecting said plate member to said outer shield, and second fastener means interconnecting said plate member to said heated bar.
