Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed: Pelargonium x interspecific
Varietal denomination: ‘PEQZ0105’
BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT
The present invention comprises a new Pelargonium, botanically known as Pelargonium interspecific, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘PEQZ0105’.
‘PEQZ0105’ is a product of a planned breeding program. The new cultivar ‘PEQZ0105’ has rose colored single inflorescences held above dark green foliage, on a spreading plant habit.
‘PEQZ0105’ originates from a hybridization in a controlled breeding program made in March 2019 in a greenhouse in Amatitlán, Guatemala. The female parent was an unpatented, proprietary plant of P. interspecific parentage, identified as ‘PEIBD1419-1V’ with single lavender color florets and similar spreading habit and green foliage when compared to ‘PEQZ0105’.
The male parent of ‘PEQZ0105’ was an unpatented, proprietary plant of P. interspecific parentage, identified as ‘PEIBD1449-12V’ with magenta-colored semi-double florets and a more vigorous mounding habit when compared to ‘PEQZ0105’. The resultant seed was sown in September 2019.
‘PEQZ0105’ was selected as one flowering plant within the progeny of the stated cross in December 2019 in a greenhouse in Gilroy, California.
The first act of asexual reproduction of ‘PEQZ0105’ was accomplished when vegetative cuttings were propagated from the initial selection in February 2020 in a greenhouse in Gilroy, California.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF INVENTION
Horticultural examination of plants grown from cuttings of the plant initiated in August 2020 in Gilroy, California, and continuing thereafter, has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for ‘PEQZ0105’ are firmly fixed and are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.
‘PEQZ0105’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity, and day length.
A Plant Breeder's Right for this cultivar has not yet been applied for. ‘PEQZ0105’ has not been made publicly available more than one year prior to the filing of this application.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the basic characteristics of the new variety. The combination of these characteristics distinguishes this Pelargonium as a new and distinct variety.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS
The accompanying photographic drawings show typical flower and foliage characteristics of ‘PEQZ0105’ with colors being as true as possible with an illustration of this type.
The photographic drawings show in FIG. 1, one flowering plants of the new variety and in FIG. 2, a close-up of an inflorescence.
DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION
The plant descriptions and measurements were taken in Gilroy, California in April 2024 under natural light. These plants were approximately 17 weeks old and were grown in quart size pots, in a greenhouse trial. The plants shown in the photographs were about 17 weeks old growing in a quart pot in a greenhouse. The photographs were taken in April 2024.
Color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart (RHS) of 2015.
