Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula: ##STR15## wherein R is a phenyl group substituted by fluorine in the meta, para, both meta and para or ortho, meta and para positions;
- R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 may be the same or different, and each is hydrogen, halo, or a C.sub.1-3 aliphatic group optionally substituted by halo, cyano, C.sub.2-5 carbalkoxy, C.sub.1-4 alkoxy, or a group S(O).sub.m R.sup.11 wherein m is 0, 1 or 2 and R.sup.11 is C.sub.1-4 alkyl, cyano, gem dimethyl, or C.sub.2-5 carbalkoxy;
- R.sup.3 contains between 3 and 18 carbon atoms and is a group R.sup.12 wherein R.sup.12 is a C.sub.1-13 non-aromatic hydrocarbyl group, optionally substituted by a C.sub.2-4 carbalkoxy or cyano group and/or by one or two hydroxy groups and/or by one to five halo atoms which are the same or different and/or by one to three groups R.sup.13 which are the same or different and each include alkyloxy, alkenyloxy, alkynyloxy, alkoxyalkoxy, acyloxy, alkynyloximino, trialkylsilyl, haloalkyloxy, haloalkenyloxy, haloalkylnyloxy, alklyoximino, alkoxycarbonyloxy and mono or di-substituted alkylamino groups, or a group --(O).sub.n S(O).sub.r (O).sub.w R.sup.19 wherein R.sup.19 is a C.sub.1-4 aliphatic group optionally substituted by halo, n is 0 or 1, r is 0, 1 or 2 and w is 0 or 1, the sum of n, r and w is between 0 and 3, or .sub.q R.sup.3 is phenyl or phenyl substituted by cyano and/or by one to five halo atoms and/or by one to three C.sub. 1-4 haloalkyl groups and/or by a group --C.tbd.CH, C.tbd.C-halo or --C.tbd.C--R.sup.12 wherein R.sup.12 is as hereinbefore defined or --C.tbd.C--R.sup.14 wherein R.sup.14 is a group S(O).sub.q R.sup.15 wherein R.sup.15 is methyl, ethyl or trifluoromethyl and q is 0, 1 or 2, or R.sup.14 is SiR.sup.16 R.sup.17 R.sup.18 wherein R.sup.16 and R.sup.17 are the same or different and are each C.sub.1-4 aliphatic groups and R.sup.18 is a C.sub.1-4 aliphatic group or phenyl provided that R.sup.16 and R.sup.17 and R.sup.18 do not contain more than 10 carbon atoms in total; and Y, Y.sup.1 and Y.sup.2 are oxygen.
- 2. A compound according to claim 1 wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen, cyano, methyl or ethyl each optionally substituted by cyano, methoxy, methylthio, chloro, bromo or fluoro.
- 3. A compound according to claim 1 wherein R.sup.2 is hydrogen, cyano, methyl or trifluoromethyl.
- 4. A compound according to claim 1 wherein R.sup.3 is a phenyl group substituted at the 3-,4- or 5-positions by one to three substituents each selected from halo, C.sub.1-4 haloalkyl, cyano, or a group (C.tbd.C).sub.p R.sup.20 wherein p is 1 or 2 and R.sup.20 is hydrogen, bromo, chloro or iodo; or R.sup.20 is an aliphatic group containing up to five carbon atoms optionally substituted by C.sub.1-4 alkoxy, C.sub.1-6 alkoxyalkoxy, C.sub.1-8 acyloxy, halo or hydroxy; or R.sup.20 is SiR.sup.16 R.sup.17 R.sup.18 wherein R.sup.16 and R.sup.17 and R.sup.18 are as hereinbefore defined and the phenyl group is additionally optionally substituted at the 2- and/or 6-positions by fluoro or chloro.
- 5. A compound according to claim 1 wherein R.sup.3 is phenyl substituted at the 3-, 4- or 5- position by one to three substituents each selected from halo, cyano, C.sub.1-4 haloalkyl or group C.tbd.C--R.sup.21 where R.sup.21 is hydrogen, methyl, or ethyl each optionally substituted by hydroxy, methoxy, ethoxy, acetoxy; or R.sup.21 is ethynyl, or a silyl group substituted by three C.sub.1-4 alkyl groups, R.sup.3 is additionally optionally substituted at the 2- and/or 6- positions by fluoro or chloro.
- 6. A compound according to claim 1 wherein R.sup.3 is a group --B(C.tbd.C)Z, wherein B is a C.sub.3-5 aliphatic chain optionally containing a double bond and/or an oxygen atom and/or a group S(O).sub.q wherein q is 0, 1 or 2, and optionally substituted by halo, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.1-4 haloalkyl, C.sub.2-4 carbalkoxy or cyano and Z is hydrogen, C.sub.1-5 alkyl, C.sub.1-3 alkoxymethyl or a group SiR.sup.16 R.sup.17 R.sup.18 wherein R.sup.16, R.sup.17 and R.sup.18 are as hereinbefore defined.
- 7. A compound according to claim 1 wherein R.sup.3 is a group -DZ.sup.1, wherein D is a group --CH.sub.2 O-- or CH.sub.2 S(O).sub.q wherein q is 0, 1 or 2 or a C.sub.2-3 aliphatic group each of which may be optionally substituted by one to three halo atoms and Z.sup.1 is silyl substituted by three C.sub.1-4 alkyl groups or Z.sup.1 is a group ##STR16## wherein R.sup.23, R.sup.24 and R.sup.25 are the same or different and are each independently selected from halo, cyano, C.sub.2-5 carbalkoxy, or a C.sub.1-4 aliphatic group optionally substituted by halo,cyano, C.sub.2-5 carbalkoxy, C.sub.1-4 alkoxy or a group S(O).sub.q R.sup.26 wherein q is 0, 1 or 2 and R.sup.26 is C.sub.1-4 alkyl, or R.sup.23, R.sup.24 and R.sup.25 are selected from C.sub.1-4 alkoxy or a group S(O).sub.z R.sup.27 wherein z is 0, 1 or 2 and R.sup.27 is C.sub.1-4 alkyl optionally substituted by fluoro or R.sup.23 and R.sup.24 are linked to form a C.sub.3-6 cycloalkyl ring, or one of R.sup.23, R.sup.24 and R.sup.25 may be hydrogen.
- 8. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1 wherein R.sup.3 is a group ##STR17## wherein Z is hydrogen, C.sub.1-5 alkyl, C.sub.1-3 alkoxymethyl or SiR.sup.16 R.sup.17 R.sup.18.
- 9. An insecticidal or acaricidal composition comprising a compound of formula (I) as defined in claim 1 in admixture with a carrier or diluent.
- 10. A method for the control of pests comprising application to the pest or to an environment susceptible to pest infestation of a pesticidally effective amount of a compound according to claim 1.
- 11. A method for the control of pests on plants comprising application to the pest or the plant of a pesticidally effective amount of a compound according to claim 1.
- 12. A method for the control of pests on animals or humans comprising application to the pest, animal or human of a pesticidally effective amount of a compound according to claim 1.
