Claims
- 1. A method for controlling a rootworm pest wherein said method comprises contacting the pest with an approximately 10-15 kDa Bacillus protein that has toxin activity against a rootworm pest and a 40-50 kDa Bacillus protein that has toxin activity against a rootworm pest.
- 2. A recombinant plant comprising a first isolated polynucleotide sequence that encodes an approximately 10-15 kDa Bacillus protein that has toxin activity against a rootworm pest and a second isolated polynucleotide sequence that encodes a 40-50 kDa Bacillus protein that has toxin activity against a rootworm pest, wherein said plant exhibits resistance to a rootworm pest when said proteins are expressed.
- 3. An isolated polynucleotide that comprises a nucleotide sequence that:
(a) encodes an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:36, SEQ ID NO:41, SEQ ID NO:52, SEQ ID NO:56, SEQ ID NO:60, SEQ ID NO:62, SEQ ID NO:66, SEQ ID NO:70, SEQ ID NO:72, SEQ ID NO:74, SEQ ID NO:76, SEQ ID NO:80, SEQ ID NO:84, SEQ ID NO:86, SEQ ID NO:88, SEQ ID NO:92, SEQ ID NO:94, SEQ ID NO:96, SEQ ID NO:98, SEQ ID NO:100, SEQ ID NO:102, SEQ ID NO:104, SEQ ID NO:106, SEQ ID NO:108, SEQ ID NO:112, SEQ ID NO:114, SEQ ID NO:118, SEQ ID NO:120, SEQ ID NO:122, SEQ ID NO:124, and SEQ ID NO: 130; or (b) was obtained by reassembly after random fragmentation of a nucleotide sequence that encodes an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:32, SEQ ID NO:36, SEQ ID NO:41, SEQ ID NO:52, SEQ ID NO:56, SEQ ID NO:60, SEQ ID NO:62, SEQ ID NO:66, SEQ ID NO:70, SEQ ID NO:72, SEQ ID NO:74, SEQ ID NO:76, SEQ ID NO:80, SEQ ID NO:84, SEQ ID NO:86, SEQ ID NO:88, SEQ ID NO:92, SEQ ID NO:94, SEQ ID NO:96, SEQ ID NO:98, SEQ ID NO:100, SEQ ID NO:102, SEQ ID NO:104, SEQ ID NO:106, SEQ ID NO:108, SEQ ID NO:112, SEQ ID NO:114, SEQ ID NO:118, SEQ ID NO:120, SEQ ID NO:122, SEQ ID No:124, and SEQ ID NO:130; wherein said polynucleotide encodes a protein that has toxin activity against a rootworm pest.
- 4. An isolated polynucleotide that comprises a nucleotide sequence that:
(a) encodes an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:38, SEQ ID NO:43, SEQ ID NO:54, SEQ ID NO:58, SEQ ID NO:64, SEQ ID NO:68, SEQ ID NO:78, SEQ ID NO:82, SEQ ID NO:90, SEQ ID NO:110, SEQ ID NO:116, and SEQ ID NO:126; or (b) was obtained by reassembly after random fragmentation of a nucleotide sequence that encodes an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 11, SEQ ID NO:38, SEQ ID NO:43, SEQ ID NO:54, SEQ ID NO:58, SEQ ID NO:64, SEQ ID NO:68, SEQ ID NO:78, SEQ ID NO:82, SEQ ID NO:90, SEQ ID NO: 10, SEQ ID NO:116, and SEQ ID NO: 126; wherein said polynucleotide encodes a protein that has toxin activity against a rootworm pest.
- 5. An isolated protein encoded by a polynucleotide of claim 3.
- 6. An isolated protein encoded by a polynucleotide of claim 4.
- 7. A method for controlling a rootworm pest wherein said method comprises contacting the pest with an approximately 10-15 kDa Bacillus protein that has toxin activity against a rootworm pest and a 40-50 kDa Bacillus protein that has toxin activity against a rootworm pest wherein said approximately 10-15 kDa protein is encoded by a polynucleotide of claim 3.
- 8. The method of clam 7 wherein said approximately 40-50 kDa protein is encoded by a polynucleotide of claim 4.
- 9. A recombinant plant comprising a first isolated polynucleotide sequence that encodes an approximately 10-15 kDa Bacillus protein that has toxin activity against a rootworm pest and a second isolated polynucleotide sequence that encodes a 40-50 kDa Bacillus protein that has toxin activity against a rootworm pest, wherein said plant exhibits resistance to a rootworm pest when said proteins are expressed, wherein said first polynucleotide is defined by claim 3.
- 10. The recombinant plant of claim 9 wherein said second polynucleotide is defined by claim 4.
- 11. The protein of claim 5 wherein said protein comprises an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:36, SEQ ID NO:41, SEQ ID NO:52, SEQ ID NO:56, SEQ ID NO:60, SEQ ID NO:62, SEQ ID NO:66, SEQ ID NO:70, SEQ ID NO:72, SEQ ID NO:74, SEQ ID NO:76, SEQ ID NO:80, SEQ ID NO:84, SEQ ID NO:86, SEQ ID NO:88, SEQ ID NO:92, SEQ ID NO:94, SEQ ID NO:96, SEQ ID NO:98, SEQ ID NO:100, SEQ ID NO:102, SEQ ID NO:104, SEQ ID NO:106, SEQ ID NO: 108, SEQ ID NO:112, SEQ ID NO:114, SEQ ID NO:118, SEQ ID NO: 120, SEQ ID NO: 122, SEQ ID NO: 124, and SEQ ID NO: 130.
- 12. The protein of claim 6 wherein said protein comprises an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:38, SEQ ID NO:43, SEQ ID NO:54, SEQ ID NO:58, SEQ ID NO:64, SEQ ID NO:68, SEQ ID NO:78, SEQ ID NO:82, SEQ ID NO:90, SEQ ID NO:110, SEQ ID NO:116, and SEQ ID NO:126.
- 13. A recombinant cell that comprises an isolated polynucleotide according to claim 3.
- 14. A recombinant cell that comprises an isolated polynucleotide according to claim 4.
- 15. A recombinant cell that comprises an isolated polynucleotide according to claim 3 and a nucleotide sequence that codes for an approximately 40-50 kDa protein that has toxin activity against a rootworm pest.
- 16. A recombinant cell that comprises an isolated polynucleotide according to claim 4 and a nucleotide sequence that codes for an approximately 10-15 kDa protein that has toxin activity against a rootworm pest.
- 17. A method of controlling a rootworm pest wherein said method comprises contacting said pest with an isolated protein according to claim 5.
- 18. A method of controlling a rootworm pest wherein said method comprises contacting said pest with an isolated protein according to claim 6.
- 19. A method of controlling a rootworm pest wherein said method comprises contacting said pest with an isolated protein according to claim 11.
- 20. A method of controlling a rootworm pest wherein said method comprises contacting said pest with an isolated protein according to claim 12.
- 21. The method of claim 17 wherein said protein is an approximately 10-15 kDa protein and wherein said method further comprises contacting said pest with an approximately 40-50 kDa protein that has toxin activity against a rootworm pest.
- 22. The method of claim 19 wherein said protein is an approximately 10-15 kDa protein and wherein said method further comprises contacting said pest with an approximately 40-50 kDa protein that has toxin activity against a rootworm pest.
- 23. The method of claim 18 wherein said protein is an approximately 40-50 kDa protein and wherein said method further comprises contacting said pest with an approximately 10-15 kDa protein that has toxin activity against a rootworm pest.
- 24. The method of claim 20 wherein said protein is an approximately 40-50 kDa protein and wherein said method further comprises contacting said pest with an approximately 10-15 kDa protein that has toxin activity against a rootworm pest.
