Claims
- 1. A process for washing textiles, comprising:combining a solid particulate detergent composition with a wash liquor having a pH below 8, wherein said detergent composition comprises an alkalizing agent coated with a water-soluble material having delayed dissolution in said wash liquor and a detergent ingredient coated with a polymeric acid that is only soluble in aqueous solutions having a pH above 8; and increasing the pH of said wash liquor to a pH above 8.5 by the delayed dissolution of said water-soluble material coating said alkalizing agent, whereby the polymeric acid coating on the detergent ingredient dissolves and effectively releases said ingredient into the wash liquor.
- 2. The process of claim 1, wherein the coated alkalizing agent comprises a bleaching agent.
- 3. The process of claim 2, wherein the coated alkalizing agent comprises sodium percarbonate, sodium perborate monohydrate or sodium perborate tetrahydrate.
- 4. The process of claim 1, wherein the alkalizing agent coating comprises a fatty alcohol.
- 5. The process of claim 1, wherein the detergent ingredient comprises a bleach activator.
- 6. The process of claim 5, wherein the bleach activator is selected from the group consisting of polyacylated alkylenediamines, tetraacetyl ethylenediamine (TAED), acylated triazine derivatives, acylated glycol urils, N-acyl imides, acylated phenol sulfonates, carboxylic anhydrides, acylated polyhydric alcohols, ethylene glycol diacetate, 2,5-diacetoxy-2,5-dihydrofuran, acetylated sorbitol and mannitol, acylated sugar derivatives, acetylated glucamine, gluconolactone N-acylated lactams, and acyl lactams.
- 7. The process of claim 1, wherein the detergent composition further comprises an acidifying agent.
- 8. The process of claim 7, wherein the detergent composition comprises 0.1 to 40 percent by weight of said acidifying agent.
- 9. The process of claim 8, wherein the detergent composition comprises 1 to 25 percent by weight of said acidifying agent.
- 10. The process of claim 1, wherein the polymeric acid coating comprises a polyacrylate or a copolymer of an unsaturated polycarboxylic acid with an unsaturated monocarboxylic acid.
- 11. The process of claim 1, wherein the coated detergent ingredient comprises less than 20 percent by weight of said polymeric acid coating.
- 12. The process of claim 11, wherein the coated detergent ingredient comprise less than 10 percent by weight of said polymeric acid coating.
- 13. The process of claim 1, wherein the dissolution of the polymeric acid coating occurs from 1 to 20 minutes after the detergent composition is added to the wash liquor.
