Claims
- 1. In the method for detecting pH of vaginal moisture, the steps that include
- a) providing an elongated first carrier,
- b) providing a pH detector on the carrier at an end portion thereof,
- c) manipulating said carrier to effect exposure of said detector to vaginal moisture, thereby to cause said detector to exhibit a color change,
- d) providing a pH correlating color comparison measurement means having an elongation direction, and relatively moving said color comparison means and said carrier generally parallel to said elongation direction to effect relative movement of said color comparison means, in sufficiently close association with said detector to allow visual comparison of the changed color exhibited by said detector with a pH correlated color provided by said measurement means.
- 2. The method of claim 1 including providing a package for supporting said first carrier and said color comparison measurement means.
- 3. The method of claim 2 including providing for removable containment of said first carrier by said package.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein said detector is provided in the form of an elongated strip and said color comparison measurement means is provided in the form of a strip of material that is elongated in a direction related to the elongated direction of said detector strip to facilitate said color comparison.
- 5. The method of claim 1 that includes relatively moving said color comparison measurement means and said carrier to achieve said close association of said color comparison measurement means with said detector.
- 6. The method of claim 2 wherein said color comparison measurement strip exhibits a series of colors spaced apart linearly, and including locating said color comparison measurement strip in such relation to said carrier as to position said linearly spaced series of colors in parallel with said elongated detector strip.
- 7. In the method for detecting pH of vaginal moisture, the steps that include
- a) providing an elongated first carrier,
- b) providing a pH detector on the carrier at and end portion thereof,
- c) manipulating said carrier to effect exposure of said detector to vaginal moisture, thereby to cause said detector to exhibit a color change,
- d) providing a pH correlating color comparison measurement means, in sufficiently close association with said carrier and with said detector to allow visual comparison of the changed color exhibited by said detector with a pH correlated color provided by said measurement means,
- e) said detector being provided in the form of an elongated strip and said color comparison measurement means is provided in the form of a strip of material that is elongated in a direction related to the elongated direction of said detector strip to facilitate said color comparison,
- f) and including relatively moving said color comparison measurement strip of material and said carrier, to effect relative movement of said color comparison measurement means in close association with said detector strip.
- 8. In the method for detecting pH of vaginal moisture, the steps that include
- a) providing an elongated first carrier,
- b) providing a pH detector on the carrier at and end portion thereof,
- c) manipulating said carrier to effect exposure of said detector to vaginal moisture, thereby to cause said detector to exhibit a color change,
- d) providing a pH correlating color comparison measurement means, in sufficiently close association with said carrier and with said detector to allow visual comparison of the changed color exhibited by said detector with a pH correlated color provided by said measurement means,
- e) said detector being provided in the form of an elongated strip and said color comparison measurement means is provided in the form of a strip of material that is elongated in a direction related to the elongated direction of said detector strip to facilitate said color comparison,
- f) and including providing said color comparison measurement strip on said carrier to have thickness that is everywhere less than the thickness of said carrier adjacent the strip.
- 9. In the method for detecting pH of vaginal moisture, the steps that include
- a) providing an elongated first carrier,
- b) providing a pH detector on the carrier at and end portion thereof,
- c) manipulating said carrier to effect exposure of said detector to vaginal moisture, thereby to cause said detector to exhibit a color change,
- d) providing a pH correlating color comparison measurement means, in sufficiently close association with said carrier and with said detector to allow visual comparison of the changed color exhibited by said detector with a pH correlated color provided by said measurement means,
- e) said detector being provided in the form of an elongated strip and said color comparison measurement means is provided in the form of a strip of material that is elongated in a direction related to the elongated direction of said detector strip to facilitate said color comparison,
- f) and including providing a package for said carrier, and adhering said color comparison measurement strip to said package.
- 10. In the method for detecting pH of vaginal moisture, the steps that include
- a) providing an elongated first carrier,
- b) providing a pH detector on the carrier at and end portion thereof,
- c) manipulating said carrier to effect exposure of said detector to vaginal moisture, thereby to cause said detector to exhibit a color change,
- d) providing a pH correlating color comparison measurement means, in sufficiently close association with said carrier and with said detector to allow visual comparison of the changed color exhibited by said detector with a pH correlated color provided by said measurement means,
- e) and wherein said detector is provided in the form of an elongated strip, and said color comparison measurement means is provided on a second carrier that is movable relative to and lengthwise of the first carrier.
- 11. The method of claim 10 wherein said second carrier is provided to have a portion that extends at least part way about the first carrier.
- 12. The method of claim 10 wherein said second carrier is provided to have a transparent zone to allow observation of said detector strip through said zone.
- 13. The method of claim 12 wherein said second carrier is provided in the form of an elongated storage receptacle into which said first carrier is substantially completely receivable and from which the first carrier is removable to allow its manipulation.
- 14. The method of claim 13 wherein said receptacle is provided to have a transparent zone proximate said color comparison measurement means to allow observation of said strip through said zone, for said color comparison.
- 15. In combination:
- a) a support package,
- b) a carrier and a pH detector on the carrier, the carrier removably supported by the package, said detector having a first elongation direction,
- c) color comparison measurement elements carried by the package to extend in a second elongation direction to allow their comparison with said pH detector after exposure of said detector to moisture the pH of which is to be determined, and with said first and second longitudinal directions oriented to extend in generally parallel relation.
- 16. The combination of claim 15 wherein the package includes a base and a receptacle on the base, the carrier and pH detector removably received in the receptacle.
- 17. The combination of claim 16 wherein the color comparison measurement elements are on one of the following:
- i) the base
- ii) the receptacle.
- 18. The combination of claim 16 wherein the receptacle is sufficiently transparent to allow viewing of the detector in the receptacle for color comparison with said elements outside the receptacle.
- 19. The combination of claim 15 including a second carrier and a second pH detector on the second carrier, and removably supported by the package.
- 20. The combination of claim 19 wherein the package includes receptacle means, the carrier and the detector located in the receptacle means.
- 21. The combination of claim 15 including a second carrier in the form of a stick removably supported by the package, and a swab on the stick.
- 22. The combination of claim 21 including receptacle means supported by the package, the stick and swab removably received in the receptacle means.
- 23. The combination of claim 22 wherein the detector and carrier therefor are also removably received in the receptacle means.
- 24. The combination of claim 23 wherein the receptacle means includes one receptacle for the stick and swab, and another receptacle for the detector and carrier therefor.
- 25. In combination:
- a) a support package,
- b) a carrier and a pH detector on the carrier, the carrier removably supported by the package,
- c) color comparison measurement elements carried by the package to allow their comparison with said pH detector after exposure of said detector to moisture the pH of which is to be determined,
- d) package including receptacle means, the carrier and the detector located in the receptacle means,
- e) and wherein the detector carrier and said comparison measurement elements are affixed to the package, there being a stick, and a swab on the stick, in association with the package, and the stick and swab are operable to transfer moisture from the swab to the detector.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
This application is a continuation-in-part of prior U.S. patent application Ser. No. 08/376,830, filed Jan. 23, 1995, now U.S. Pat. No. 5,664,579, which is a continuation-in-part of prior U.S. patent application Ser. No. 08/295,399, filed Aug. 25, 1994, now U.S. Pat. No. 5,425,377.
