Claims
- 1. An antiacne composition comprising:
an extract of Krameria; at least one acid selected from the group consisting of ximeninic acid and lauric acid; and at least one anti-inflammatory, wherein the extract is present in an amount sufficient to inhibit acne manifestations.
- 2. The composition of claim 1, wherein the extract of Krameria is obtained by extracting one or more of the roots, bark, or leaves of Krameria with a protic solvent or acetone.
- 3. The composition of claim 1, wherein the extract of Krameria is present in an amount from about 0.1 percent to about 0.5 percent by weight.
- 4. The composition of claim 2, wherein the extract of Krameria is an extract of Krameria triandra.
- 5. The composition of claim 4, wherein the extract of Krameria triandra is present in an amount from about 0.1 percent to about 0.3 percent by weight.
- 6. The composition of claim 1, wherein the extract of Krameria is a pure compound of the extract.
- 7. The composition of claim 6, wherein the pure compound of the extract contains one or more neolignanes comprising Eupomatenoid 6,2-(2,4- dihydroxyphenyl)-5-propenylbenzofuran, or a mixture there of.
- 8. The composition of claim 1, wherein the at least one acid is ximeninic acid and is present in an amount from about 0.2 percent to about 1 percent by weight.
- 9. The composition of claim 1, wherein the at least one acid is lauric acid and is present in an amount from about 0.1 percent to about 0.4 percent by weight.
- 10. The composition of claim 1, wherein ximeninic acid is present in an amount from about 0.2 percent to about 1 percent by weight and lauric acid is present in an amount from about 0.1 percent to about 0.4 percent by weight.
- 11. The composition of claim 1, wherein the at least one anti-inflammatory is a saponin present in an amount from about 0.1 percent to about 1 percent by weight.
- 12. The composition according to claim 11, wherein the at least one anti-inflammatory saponin is an extract from Olax dissitiflora, Aesculus hippocastanum, Centella asiatica, Terminalia sericea, Glycyrrhiza glabra, or a mixture thereof.
- 13. The composition of claim 12, wherein the at least one anti-inflammatory saponin is escin.
- 14. The composition of claim 13, wherein the escin is present in an amount from about 0.4 percent to about 0.7 percent by weight.
- 15. The composition of claim 1, further comprising at least one low molecular weight fatty acid.
- 16. The composition of claim 15, wherein the at least one low molecular weight fatty acid comprises myristic acid, isomyristic acid, or a mixture thereof.
- 17. The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition is a gel, lotion, milk, or solid.
- 18. A method of treating acne on a body which comprises applying thereto a composition comprising:
an extract of Krameria; at least one of ximeninic acid or lauric acid; and at least one anti-inflammatory saponin, wherein the composition is applied in an amount sufficient to treat, inhibit, or prevent acne manifestations on the body.
