Claims
- 1. A method of treating an atopic disorder wherein
- (1) an effective amount of a metabolite of linoleic acid selected from the group consisting of GLA, DGLA, AA, a 22:4n-6 essential fatty acid and a 22:5n-6 essential fatty acid, and
- (2) an effective amount of a metabolite of alpha-linoleic acid selected from the group consisting of 18:4n-3, 20:4n-3, 20:5n-3, 22:5n-3 and 22:6n-3 essential fatty acids,
- are administered alone or in an acceptable pharmaceutical carrier or diluent to an animal suffering from said disorder.
- 2. A method according to claim 1, wherein said disorder is eczema.
- 3. A method according to claim 2, wherein one or both said metabolites are in the form of an ester, salt, amide or other derivative convertible in the body thereto.
- 4. A method according to claim 2, wherein at least two of said metabolites of linoleic acid are administered.
- 5. A method according to claim 2, wherein at least two of said metabolites of alpha-linoleic acid are administered.
- 6. A method according to claim 2, wherein GLA or DGLA is administered.
- 7. A method according to claim 2, wherein said amount of each acid is 1 mg to 50 g/day.
- 8. A method according to claim 7, wherein said amount of each acid is 50 mg to 5 g/day.
- 9. A method according to claim 1, wherein one or both said metabolites are in the form of an ester, salt, amide or other derivative convertible in the body thereto.
- 10. A method according to claim 1, wherein at least two of said metabolites of linoleic acid are administered.
- 11. A method according to claim 1, wherein at least two of said metabolites of alpha-linolenic acid are administered.
- 12. A method according to claim 1, wherein GLA or DGLA is administered.
- 13. A method according to claim 1, wherein said amount of each of said acid is 1 mg to 50 g/day.
- 14. A method according to claim 13, wherein said amount of each acid is 50 mg to 5 g/day.
