Claims
- 1. Use of a nitrogen-containing heterocycle of the formula ##STR33## in which: the combination of R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 is a member selected from the group consisting of
- R.sup.1 =R.sup.2 =R.sup.3 =H;
- R.sup.1 =NH.sub.2, R.sup.2 =OH, and R.sup.3 =H;
- R.sup.1 =OH, R.sup.2 =OH, and R.sup.3 =CH.sub.3 ;
- R.sup.1 =OH, R.sup.2 =OH, and R.sup.3 =H;
- R.sup.1 =F, R.sup.2 =OH, and R.sup.3 =H; and
- R.sup.1 =OH, R.sup.2 =OH, and R.sup.3 =F;
- n is 8 to 20; and
- Z.sup.- is a member selected from the group consisting of chloride, bromide, iodide, maleate, formate, acetate, propionate, hydrogen sulfate, malate, fumarate, salicylate, alginate, gluconate, glucoronate, galactoronate, ethyl sulfate and H.sub.2 PO.sub.4.sup.- ;
- as a pharmaceutically active substance at pH 6-8 in a polar solvent for the control of an infection by microorganisms in a host suffering therefrom.
- 2. Use according to claim 1 in which n is 2.
