Claims
- 1. An offset printing apparatus for transferring a phase change ink onto a print medium comprising:
a) a phase change ink component for applying a phase change ink in a phase change ink image; b) an imaging member for accepting said phase change ink image from said phase change ink component, and transferring the phase change ink image from said imaging member to said print medium, the imaging member comprising:
i) an imaging substrate, and thereover ii) an outer coating comprising a thermoplastic other than polytetrafluoroethylene, polyethylene, polyphenylene sulfide, polyamide, and fluorinated ethylene propylene.
- 2. The offset printing apparatus of claim 1, wherein said thermoplastic is selected from the group consisting of perfluoroalkoxy, polyimide, perfluorovinylalkylether tetrafluoroethylene, polyether, polyester, polypropylene, vinylidene fluoride, polymethyl methacrylate, polyethylene terephthalate, polyethylene naphthalate, poly(vinyl fluoride), polychlorotrifluoroethylene, and mixtures thereof.
- 3. The offset printing apparatus of claim 2, wherein said thermoplastic is a polyester.
- 4. The offset printing apparatus of claim 3, wherein said polyester is a polyester polydiorganosiloxane, poly(ethylene terephthalate), poly(butylene terephthalate), poly(ethylene naphthoate), and mixtures thereof.
- 5. The offset printing apparatus of claim 2, wherein said thermoplastic is a polyether.
- 6. The offset printing apparatus of claim 5, wherein said polyether is selected from the group consisting of polyether ether ketone, poly(phenylene ether), polyether sulfone, and mixtures thereof.
- 7. The offset printing apparatus of claim 2, wherein said thermoplastic is a polypropylene.
- 8. The offset printing apparatus of claim 7, wherein said polypropylene is poly(ethylene propylene), polystyrene, polyphenylene oxide, and mixtures thereof.
- 9. The offset printing apparatus of claim 2, wherein said thermoplastic is a polyvinylidene halide.
- 10. The offset printing apparatus of claim 9, wherein said polyvinylidene halide is selected from the group consisting of polyvinylidene fluoride and polyvinylidene chloride.
- 11. The offset printing apparatus in accordance with claim 2, wherein said thermoplastic is a polyimide.
- 12. The offset printing apparatus of claim 11, wherein said polyimide is selected from the group consisting of polyamideimide, fluorinated polyimide, polyimidesulfone, polyimide polyorganosiloxane, and polyimide ether.
- 13. The offset printing apparatus of claim 12, wherein said polyimide is polyamideimide.
- 14. The offset printing apparatus of claim 1, wherein said outer coating further comprises a filler.
- 15. The offset printing apparatus of claim 14, wherein said filler is selected from the group consisting of metals, metal oxides, carbon blacks, polymers, and mixtures thereof.
- 16. The offset printing apparatus of claim 1, wherein said imaging substrate comprises a metal.
- 17. The offset printing apparatus of claim 1, wherein an intermediate layer is positioned between said substrate and said outer coating.
- 18. The offset printing apparatus of claim 17, wherein said intermediate layer comprises a silicone material.
- 19. The offset printing apparatus of claim 17, wherein said intermediate layer comprises a filler.
- 20. The offset printing apparatus of claim 19, wherein said filler is selected from the group consisting of carbon blacks, metal oxides, metals, polymers, and mixtures thereof.
- 21. The offset printing apparatus of claim 1, wherein said phase change ink is solid at about 25° C.
- 22. The offset printing apparatus of claim 1, wherein said phase change ink comprises a dye.
- 23. An offset printing apparatus for printing a phase change ink onto a print medium comprising:
a) a phase change ink component for applying a phase change ink in a phase change ink image; b) an imaging member for accepting said phase change ink image from said phase change ink component, and transferring the phase change ink image from said imaging member to said print medium and for fixing the phase change ink image to said print medium, the imaging member comprising in order:
i) an imaging substrate, ii) an intermediate layer, and iii) an outer coating comprising a thermoplastic other than polytetrafluoroethylene, polyethylene, polyphenylene sulfide, polyamide, and fluorinated ethylene propylene; and c) a heating member associated with the offset printing apparatus.
- 24. An offset printing apparatus comprising:
a) a phase change ink component containing a phase change ink; b) a imaging member comprising:
i) a substrate, and thereover ii) an outer coating comprising a thermoplastic other than polytetrafluoroethylene, polyethylene, polyphenylene sulfide, polyamide, and fluorinated ethylene propylene; and c) a heating member associated with said offset printing apparatus, wherein said phase change ink component dispenses said phase change ink onto said imaging member, and wherein said phase change ink is solid at about 25° C.
