Claims
- 1. A polyamide composition containing 0.02 to 5% by weight of a stabilizer of the formula: ##STR45## wherein R.sup.2 is a benzyl, .alpha.-methylbenzyl, .alpha.,.alpha.-dimethyl benzyl, cyclopentyl or cyclohexyl group;
- R.sup.1 is an alkyl, a cycloalkyl radical, an aralkyl or an aryl group;
- Y is a sulphur atom or a group ##STR46## in which R.sup.3 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl, cyclohexyl or cyclohexenyl group;
- X is a hydrogen atom, a single-bond to four-bond straight-chain or branched-chain aliphatic group, an aralkyl group or an aromatic group, each of which groups may contain an olefinic double bond or a hetero atom selected from N, O and S and be unsubstituted or substituted by a hydroxyl, alkoxy having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, amino, alkylamino having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, dialkylamino having 1 to 8 carbon atoms in each alkyl, --SH, alkyl mercapto having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkyl having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, aralkyl having 7 to 12 carbon atoms, aryl having 6 to 10 carbon atoms or aroxy having 6 to 10 carbon atoms; and
- n is an integer of from 1 to 4, with the proviso that when X is a hydrogen atom n is 1.
- 2. A polyamide composition according to claim 1 wherein:
- X is a hydrogen atom, or
- (a) a moiety of the formula: ##STR47## wherein: --L-- is a single bond or an alkyleneoxy moiety,
- R.sup.4 is a hydrogen atom, --L--, an aryl group, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.9 alkyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.12 alkaryl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl mercapto, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, or a .beta.-hydroxy alkoxy radical, an OH-group, an amino-group, or a HS-group or a ##STR48## radical in which Q is a single bond, and O or S atom or a --O--(CH.sub.2).sub.2 --O or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylidene group; and
- Z is 1 or 2; or
- (b) a moiety of the formula: ##STR49## wherein R.sup.5 is hydroxy or hydrogen and
- Z is a single bond, an alkylidene group, --O--(CH.sub.2).sub.2 --O--, an oxygen or sulphur atom; or
- (c) an alkyl or alkylene group unsubstituted or substituted by phenyl, --OH or phenoxy and which may optionally be attached through ether bridges or S-bridges to an alkyl, cyclohexyl or a tetralyl group or;
- (d) a moiety of the formula: ##STR50## wherein M is an alkylene or alkylene cycloalkyl group; and
- R.sup.6 is --M--, a hydroxyalkyl, a hydroxyalkoxy, an alkylene, a hydrogen atom or --OH; or
- (e) a moiety of the formula: ##STR51## (f) an oxyalkylation product of glycerol, trimethylol propane or pentaerythritol containing from 3 to 8 oxyethyl or oxypropyl moieties; and
- n is an integer of from 1 to 4, provided that when X is a hydrogen atom the n is equal to 1.
- 3. A polyamide composition according to claim 1 wherein R.sup.2, R.sup.1, Y, X and n have ghe following meaning:

- 4. Polyamides as claimed in claim 1 containing 0.05 to 2% by weight of the stabilizer.
- 5. A polyamide composition according to claim 1 having glass fiber reinforcement.
- 6. A polyamide composition according to claim 1 or 5 wherein the polyamide component is polyamide-6 or polyamide-6,6.
- 7. Polyamides as claimed in claim 5 containing 0.05 to 2% by weight of the stabiliser.
