Claims
- 1. A fluorescent lamp comprising a hermetically sealed tubular glass envelope coated with an alkaline earth halophosphate phosphor, bases at each end of said tubular glass envelope, electrodes, support electrical leads connected to said electrodes, said electrodes coated with an electron-emission promoting material, and a mercury droplet within said tubular glass envelope; said phosphor having a bilayer coating comprising a coating of alumina surrounding a coating of silica which surrounds the phosphor.
- 2. A lamp in accordance with claim 1 wherein the phosphor is a calcium halophosphate phosphor.
- 3. A high color rendition fluorescent lamp comprising
- a light transmissive envelope having two ends;
- electrodes sealed into each end of the envelope;
- an arc generating and sustaining medium which includes mercury;
- a first layer of alkaline earth halophosphate phosphor coating an inner surface of the light transmissive envelope; and
- a second layer of phosphor overlying the first layer of phosphor wherein the second layer of phosphor comprises a mixture of red, blue and green emitting phosphors, at least one phosphor of the mixture being a zinc silicate phosphor;
- wherein each of the alkaline earth halophosphate and zinc silicate phosphors have a bilayer coating comprising a coating of alumina surrounding a coating of silica which surrounds the phosphor.
- 4. The high color rendition fluorescent lamp in accordance with claim 3 wherein the alkaline earth halophosphate phosphor is a calcium halophosphate phosphor.
