Claims
- 1. A condensation copolymer obtained by reacting together at least one diamine of general formula H.sub.2 N -- R -- NH.sub.2 wherein R is a divalent hydrocarbon radical selected from the group consisting of aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic and araliphatic, at least one dibasic acid of formula HOOC -- R.sup.1 -- COOH or a functional derivative thereof, said functional derivative being selected from the group consisting of acid halides, ester and salts which react in the same manner as acids, where R.sup.1 is a divalent hydrocarbon radical selected from the group consisting of aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic and araliphatic, and a monomer of formula A: ##STR14## where m is an integer from 0 - 6, n is an integer from 1 - 6, R.sup.2 is hydrogen or an alkyl group of 1 - 6 carbon atoms, R.sup.3 is an alkyl, aryl, alkaryl, or alkenyl group of 1 - 12 carbon atoms, and Y and Z are independently selected from the group consisting of -- NH.sub.2, -- COOH and functional derivatives thereof, said functional derivative being selected from the group consisting of acid halides, esters and salts which react in the same manner as acids, the monomer of formula A providing a unit of structure ##STR15## in the backbone of the copolymer, the number of said units in the backbone chain being sufficient to provide from about 0.01 wt. % to about 3 wt. % of ketone carbonyl based upon the total copolymer.
- 2. A condensation copolymer as claimed in claim 1, wherein the groups Y and Z in the monomer of formula A are both amine groups.
- 3. A condensation copolymer as claimed in claim 1, wherein the groups Y and Z in the monomer of formula A are both carboxylic acid groups or functional derivatives thereof.
- 4. A condensation copoylmer as claimed in claim 3, wherein the monomer of formula A is .gamma.- acetyl pimelic acid or a functional derivative thereof.
- 5. A condensation copolymer as claimed in claim 3, wherein the monomer of formula A is .gamma.- benzoyl pimelic acid or a functional derivative thereof.
- 6. A condensation copoylmer as claimed in claim 3, wherein the diamine of general formula H.sub.2 N -- R -- NH.sub.2 is a straight chain alkylene diamine.
- 7. A condensation copolymer as claimed in claim 1, wherein the monomer of formula A is a amino-acid.
- 8. A condensation copoylmer obtained by reacting together an amino-acid of general formula H.sub.2 N -- R.sup.7 -- COOH wherein R.sup.7 is a divalent hydrocarbon radical selected from the group consisting of aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic and araliphatic, and a monomer of formula (F): ##STR16## or a functional derivative thereof, said functional derivative being selected from the group consisting of acid halides, esters and salts which react in the same manner as acids, where m is an integer from 0 - 6, n is an integer from 1 - 6, R.sup.2 is hydrogen or an alkyl group of 1 - 6 carbon atoms, and R.sup.3 is an alkyl, aryl, alkaryl or alkenyl group of 1 - 12 carbon atoms, the monomer of formula F providing a unit of structure ##STR17## in the backbone of the copolymer, the number of said units in the backbone chain being sufficient to provide from about 0.01 wt. % to about 3 wt. % of ketone carbonyl based upon the total copolymer.
- 9. A condensation copoylmer as claimed in claim 8 wherein the amino-acid is amino-caproic acid or a functional derivative thereof, and the monomer of formula F is an acetyl caprolactam.
