Claims
- 1. In a light-sensitive photographic element which comprises a support having coated thereon a transparent polymeric binder, the improvement in which said binder contains a photobleachable dye of the formula: ##SPC10##
- wherein
- a. k represents 0 or 1;
- b. m represents 0 or 1;
- c. each L represents a methine group;
- d. A represents oxygen, sulfur or N--R.sub.1 ;
- e. R.sub.1 represents an alkyl group, an alkenyl group or an aryl group;
- f. Z.sub.1 represents the nonmetallic atoms completing a cyanine dye type heterocyclic nucleus comprising a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring whose skeletal atoms consist of the oxygen, sulfur or nitrogen atom of A, carbon atoms and one other atom chosen from the group consisting of carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, selenium and sulfur atoms; and
- g. Y represents the atoms necessary to complete a phenyl or naphthyl group.
- 2. A light-sensitive photographic element according to claim 1 in which said photobleachable dye is homogeneously blended with a transparent polymer in said polymeric binder.
- 3. A light-sensitive photographic element according to claim 1 in which said transparent polymer is gelatin.
- 4. A light-sensitive photographic element according to claim 3 in which said gelatin is combined with silver halide to form a photographic emulsion.
- 5. A light-sensitive photographic element according to claim 1 in which said element additionally includes as a layer thereof a radiation-sensitive image-recording silver halide emulsion means.
- 6. A light-sensitive photographic element according to claim 7 in which at least one layer of said radiation-sensitive image-recording means is interposed between said transparent binder coating containing sid photobleachable dye and said support.
- 7. A light-sensitive photographic element according to claim 1 in which said element additionally includes as a layer thereof a radiation-sensitive image-recording means comprised of a silver halide emulsion coating.
- 8. A light-sensitive photographic element according to claim 1 in which said element additionally includes as a layer thereof a radiation-sensitive image-recording means comprised of an image-recording photothermographic means.
- 9. A light-sensitive photographic element according to claim 8 in which sad image-recording photothermographic means includes a layer comprised of
- a. an oxidation-reduction image-forming combination comprising
- i. a reducing agent and
- ii. a heavy metal salt oxidizing agent,
- b. a catalyst for the oxidation-reduction image-forming combination, and
- c. a binder.
- 10. A light-sensitive photographic element according to claim 1 in which said dye is present in an amount sufficient to impart an optical density of at least 0.2 to said binder coating.
- 11. A photographic element according to claim 1 in which R.sub.1 is an alkyl group chosen from the class consisting of a sulfoalkyl group, a sulfatoalkyl group, an alkoxyalkyl group, an acyloxyalkyl group, a dialkylaminoalkylene group and a cycloaminoalkylene group.
- 12. A photographic element according to claim 1 in which R.sub.1 is an aryl group which is alkyl substituted.
- 13. A light-sensitive photographic element of claim 1 wherein Z.sub.1 represents the nonmetallic atoms completing a thiazole nucleus, an oxazole nucleus, a selenazole nucleus, a thiazoline nucleus, a pyridine nucleus, an imidazole nucleus, a quinoline nucleus, an indolenine nucleus, an imidazo[4,5-b]quinoxaline nucleus, a 3H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine nucleus or a thiazolo[4,5-b]-quinoline nucleus.
- 14. A light-sensitive photograhic element of claim 13 wherein said dye is selected from:
- a. 2-(2,4-dinitrobenzylidene)-1,3-diethyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]quinoxaline;
- b. 2-(2,4-dinitrobenzylidene)-3-ethyl-2,3-dihydrothiazolo[4,5-b]quinoline;
- c. 2-(2,4-dinitrobenzylidene)-3-ethyl-6-nitrobenzothiazoline;
- d. 2-(2,4-dinitrobenzylidene)-1,3,3-trimethylindolenine; and
- e. 4-(2,4-dinitrobenzylidene)-1-ethylquinoline.
- 15. A light-sensitive photographic element which comprises a support having coated thereon an otherwise transparent polymeric binder containing 6-chloro-2-(2,4-dinitrobenzylidene)-1,3-diethyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]quinoxaline.
- 16. A photographic element which comprises a support having coated thereon a transparent polymeric binder the improvenent in which said binder contains a photobleachable dye in which said photobleachable dye is 4-(2,4-dinitrobenzylidene-2,6-diphenyl-4H-pyran.
- 17. A photographic element which comprises a support having coated thereon a transparent polymeric binder the improvement in which said binder contains a photobleachable dye in which said photobleachable dye is 2-(2,4-dinitrobenzylidene)-4,6-diphenyl-2H-pyran.
- 18. A photographic element which comprises a support having coated thereon a transparent polymeric binder the improvement in which said binder contains a photobleachable dye in which said photobleachable dye is 2-(2,4-dinitrobenzylidene)-1,3-dithiolane.
- 19. A photographic element which comprises a support having coated thereon a transparent polymeric binder containing a photobleachable dye having the formula: ##SPC11##
- wherein:
- a. k represents 0 or 1;
- b. m represents 0 or 1;
- c. each L represents a methine group;
- d. R.sub.1 represents an alkyl group, an alkenyl group or an aryl group;
- e. Z.sub.1 represents the nonmetallic atoms completing a 5- to 6-membered heterocyclic nucleus selected from the group consisting of an oxazole nucleus, a thiazole nucleus, a selenazole nucleus, a 3,3-dialkylindolenine nucleus, an imidazo[4,5-b]quinoxaline nucleus, a thiazoline nucleus, a pyridine nucleus, an imidazole nucleus, a quinoline nucleus, a 3H-pyrrolo-[2,3-b]pyridine nucleus and a thiazolo-[4,5-b]quinoline nucleus; and
- f. Y represents the atoms necessary to complete a nitro-substituted phenyl or naphthyl group, a nitro-substituted phenyl or 1-naphthyl group having a 4-ring position electron-withdrawing group, a nitro-substituted phenyl group having 4- and 6-position electron-withdrawing groups, or a nitro-substituted phenyl group having a 6-position electron-withdrawing group,
- and, coated thereon, radiation-sensitive image-recording silver halide emulsion means.
- 20. A photographic element according to claim 19 in which said electron-withdrawing groups are chosen from the class consisting of nitro, ethoxycarbonyl and trifluoromethyl groups.
- 21. A photographic element according to claim 19 in which said dye is present in an amount sufficient to impart an optical density of at least 0.5 to said binder coating.
