Claims
- 1. A compound of Formula (1) and salts thereof: ##STR13## in which: M is selected from the group consisting of a metal and hydrogen;
- Pc is a phthalocyanine nucleus;
- R.sup.1, R.sup.2, W.sup.1 and W.sup.2 are each independently selected from the group consisting of H, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted aryl, and optionally substituted aralkyl;
- R.sup.3 is an aminoalkyl group of formula --C.sub.n H.sub.2n NR.sup.4 R.sup.5 ;
- Where n is from 2 to 6; and
- R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are selected from the group consisting of:
- a. where R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are independently selected from a group consisting of: H, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted aryl; and optionally substituted aralkyl; and
- b. where R.sup.4 and R.sup.5, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a ring selected from the group consisting of pyridine, piperidine and morpholine;
- L is selected from the group consisting of optionally substituted alkylene; optionally substituted aralkylene; and optionally substituted arylene;
- x, y and t are each independently 0.5 to 2.5; and
- (x+y+t) is from 3 to 4;
- where the optional substituents are selected from the group consisting of H, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.1-4 alkoxy, carboxy, sulpho, --OH, amino, --CN, --NO, and halo.
- 2. A compound according to claim 1, in which R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are each independently selected from the group consisting of H, optionally substituted C.sub.1-4 -alkyl, optionally substituted phenyl, and optionally substituted benzyl.
- 3. A compound according to claim 1, in which L is selected from the group consisting of optionally substituted C.sub.1-6 alkylene, optionally substituted C.sub.7-11 aralkylene, and optionally substituted arylene having up to ten carbon atoms.
- 4. A compound according to claim 1, in which M is copper.
- 5. A compound according to claim 1, in which:
- x is from 0.8 to 2,
- y is from 1 to 2 and
- t is from 0.8 to 2.
- 6. A compound according to claim 1, in which the sum of (x+y+z) is 4.
- 7. An ink comprising a compound of Formula (1) or salt thereof according to claim 1 and a liquid medium.
- 8. An ink according to claim 7, in which is liquid medium comprises water and a water-soluble organic solvent in a weight ratio of 99:1 to 1:99.
- 9. A process for printing a substrate comprising the step of applying to the substrate with an ink jet printer an ink according to claim 7.
- 10. A process for the coloration of textile material with an ink according to claim 11, the process comprising:
- applying the ink to the textile material by ink jet printing; and
- heating the textile material at a temperature from 50.degree. C. to 250.degree. C.,
- wherein, said heating the textile material fixes the dye on the material.
- 11. A substrate selected from the group consisting of a textile material, paper, and an overhead projector slide, wherein the substrate is printed with an ink according to claim 7.
- 12. A process for the preparation of a colorant of Formula (1) according to claim 1, which comprises condensing, preferably in the presence of a base, a compound of Formula (2); ##STR14## in which: M, Pc, R.sup.1, L, W.sup.1, W.sup.2, x, y and t are as defined in claim 1 and B is selected from the group consisting of halo and --OSO.sub.3 H;
- with a compound of Formula (3): ##STR15## in which R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are as defined in claim 1.
