Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula (I): ##STR27## wherein R.sub.1 is carboxyl; R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are the same and or different and are hydrogen or alkyl; A is formyl, hydroxyiminomethyl or carboxyl; and X is hydrogen or halogen, or a salt thereof.
- 2. The compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sub.1 is carboxyl.
- 3. The compound according to claim 1, wherein the alkyl has 1 to 6 carbon atoms.
- 4. The compound according to claim 1, wherein the halogen is chlorine.
- 5. The compound according to claim 1, wherein X is at the 3 or 5 position in the partial structural formula of the compound: ##STR28##
- 6. The compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sub.1 is carboxyl, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are hydrogen, A is formyl and X is hydrogen.
- 7. The compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sub.1 is carboxyl, R.sub.2 is methyl, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are hydrogen, A is formyl and X is hydrogen.
- 8. The compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sub.1 is carboxyl, R.sub.2 and R.sub.4 are hydrogen, R.sub.3 is methyl, A is formyl and X is hydrogen.
- 9. The compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sub.1 is carboxyl, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are methyl, R.sub.4 is hydrogen, A is formyl and X is hydrogen.
- 10. The compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sub.1 is carboxyl, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are methyl, A is formyl and X is hydrogen.
- 11. The compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sub.1 is carboxyl, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are hydrogen, A is hydroxyiminomethyl and X is hydrogen.
- 12. The compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sub.1 is carboxyl, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are hydrogen, A is carboxyl and X is at the 5 position in the partial structural formula of the compound: ##STR29## and is chlorine.
- 13. The compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sub.1 is carboxyl, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are hydrogen, A is formyl and X is at the 5 position in the partial structural formula of the compound: ##STR30## and is chlorine.
- 14. An aromatase inhibitor comprising as an active component a compound of the formula (I): ##STR31## wherein R.sub.1 is carboxyl; R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are the same or different and are hydrogen or alkyl; A is formyl and X is hydrogen, or a salt thereof in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent.
