Claims
- 1. A video indexing method, comprising the steps of:recording a video program having time-sequential frames representative of motion imagery and an associated playback speed; separately storing a subset of the frames representative of segments of the program which are spaced apart in time; sequencing through the recorded video program at a rate in excess of the playback speed; and monitoring the progress of the sequencing by displaying the frames of the subset rather than the corresponding frames of the program.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of sequencing includes rewinding the program.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of sequencing includes fast-forwarding the program.
- 4. The method of claim 1, further including the steps of:digitally compressing the frames of the subset; and decompressing the frames of the subset prior to the step of displaying the frames.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the step associated with separately storing the frames of the subset includes using the same medium as that used to record the video program.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the step associated with separately storing the frames of the subset includes using a medium other than that used to record the video program.
