Claims
- 1. A valve comprising:
- a body having a bore extending therethrough;
- a flexible member received in said bore and having a passage defined therethrough adapted to be selectively opened and closed;
- a closure member at least partially received in said body, said closure member selectively engaging said flexible member for opening and closing said passage;
- means for selectively advancing/retracting said closure member toward/away from said flexible member, said advancing/retracting means being movable between open and closed positions; and,
- means for limiting forces imposed by said closure member on said flexible member when said advancing/retracting means is in said closed position.
- 2. The valve as defined in claim 1 wherein said force limiting means includes a lost motion coupling between said closure member and said advancing/retracting means.
- 3. The valve as defined in claim 2 wherein said lost motion coupling includes a slot and key interconnecting said closure member and said advancing/retracting means.
- 4. The valve as defined in claim 1 wherein said force limiting means further includes means for biasing said closure member relative to said advancing/retracting means.
- 5. The valve as defined in claim 1 wherein said advancing/retracting means includes a piston operatively engaging said closure member through a lost-motion coupling whereby said closure member can move relative to said piston through a predetermined range of movement.
- 6. The valve as defined in claim 5 wherein said piston is biased by a first spring to one of open and closed positions.
- 7. The valve as defined in claim 6 wherein said lost motion coupling includes a second spring interposed between said piston and closure member.
- 8. The valve as defined in claim 7 wherein said lost motion coupling includes a key and slot interconnection.
- 9. The valve a defined in claim 5 wherein said advancing/retracting means includes an actuating handle for manual operation.
- 10. A pinch valve comprising:
- a body having a bore extending therethrough;
- a flexible member received in said bore and having a passage defined therethrough adapted to be selectively opened and closed;
- a closure member at least partially received in said body, said closure member selectively engaging said flexible member for opening and closing said passage;
- an actuating mechanism for advancing and retracting said closure toward and away from said flexible member, said actuating mechanism including a piston operatively associated with said closure member; and,
- means for permitting limited relative movement between said piston and closure member to limit forces imposed on said flexible member.
- 11. The pinch valve as defined in claim 10 wherein said movement permitting means includes a slot and key interconnecting said closure member and piston.
- 12. The pinch valve as defined in claim 11 wherein said movement permitting means includes a biasing means associated with said closure member and piston.
- 13. The pinch valve as defined in claim 12 wherein said biasing means is a spring disposed between said closure member and piston.
- 14. The pinch valve as defined in claim 10 wherein said movement permitting means includes a biasing means associated with said closure member and piston.
- 15. The pinch valve as defined in claim 10 wherein said actuating mechanism includes a spring biasing said piston toward one of open and closed positions.
- 16. The pinch valve as defined in claim 10 wherein said actuating mechanism includes a handle for manual operation.
- 17. The pinch valve as defined in claim 10 wherein said actuating mechanism includes a pressurized fluid source for urging said piston toward one of open and closed positions.
