Claims
- 1. A pipe hanging system for supporting a section of pipe elevated above a flat mounting surface formed on a generally flat roof, the system comprising:
- a plastic base having a substantially flat base lower surface cooperating with the flat mounting surface for distributing a load over a region of the flat mounting surface which is sufficiently large to maintain the maximum unit load per unit area within an acceptable limit, the base having at least one opening formed therein;
- a post having an end which is received within the at least one opening and oriented substantially perpendicular to the base;
- a cross-member attached to the post and oriented substantially perpendicular to the post;
- a threaded rod attached to and downwardly depending from the cross-member; and
- a yoke for supporting the section of pipe, the yoke attached to the threaded rod for accommodating vertical adjustment of the yoke and the section of pipe, and for allowing limited relative transverse movement between the yoke and the post.
- 2. The system of claim 1, further comprising a compressible pad having a pad upper surface and a pad lower surface, the pad disposed between the base and the flat mounting surface wherein the base lower surface cooperates with the pad upper surface.
- 3. A pipe hanging system for supporting a section of pipe upon a flat mounting surface formed on a generally flat roof, the system comprising:
- a pair of plastic bases, each base having a substantially flat base lower surface cooperating with the flat mounting surface for distributing a load over a region of the flat mounting surface which is sufficiently large to maintain the maximum unit load per unit area within an acceptable limit, each base having an opening formed therein;
- a frame having a pair of posts spaced apart from each other, a cross-member extending between the pair of posts and a downwardly depending threaded rod attached to the cross-member, each of the pair of posts having an end which is received within the opening in one of the pair of bases; and
- at least one yoke for supporting the section of the pipe, the yoke attached to the threaded rod for accommodating vertical adjustment of the yoke and the section of the pipe, and for allowing limited relative transverse movement between the yoke and the frame.
- 4. The system of claim 3, wherein the end of each of the pair of posts has a rectangular cross-section and the opening is a rectangular aperture for receiving a corresponding end.
- 5. The system of claim 3, further comprising a tubular insert located in the opening for receiving a corresponding end of each of the pair of posts.
- 6. The system of claim 3, further comprising a pair of compressible pads each having a pad upper surface and a pad lower surface, each of the pair of compressible pads disposed between a corresponding one of the pair of bases and the flat mounting surface wherein the base lower surface cooperates with the pad upper surface, and the pad lower surface engages the flat mounting surface.
- 7. A method of supporting pipe upon a flat mounting surface, the method comprising:
- placing a compressible pad having a pad lower surface and a pad upper surface so that the pad lower surface cooperates with the flat mounting surface;
- positioning a plastic base on the pad upper surface for distributing a load over a region of the flat mounting surface which is sufficiently large to maintain the maximum unit load per unit area within an acceptable limit, the base having a generally planar base lower surface and base upper surface with at least one opening formed therein;
- mounting a frame to the base, the frame including at least one post having an end received within the at least one opening of the base to securely orient the at least one post perpendicular to the base lower surface; and
- mounting a yoke to the frame for supporting the pipe; and
- positioning a section of the pipe upon the yoke and adjusting the yoke in order to level the pipe and distribute the load thereof along the flat mounting surface.
- 8. The method of claim 7 further comprising applying a layer of adhesive between the compressible pad and the flat mounting surface.
- 9. The method of claim 7 further comprising inserting a tubular insert into the at least one opening of the base wherein the step of mounting the frame to the base further comprises telescopically inserting the end of the at least one post therein.
