Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula (I) ##STR50## in which A is a group of formula (IIb) ##STR51## in which R.sub.4 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, O, OH, NO, CH.sub.2 CN, C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkoxy, C.sub.5 -C.sub.12 cycloalkoxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkenyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.9 phenyalkyl which is unsubstituted or mono-, di- or tri-substituted on the phenyl by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 acyl R.sub.6 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.12 cycloalkyl which is unsubstituted or mono-, di- or tri-substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; C.sub.7 -C.sub.9 phenylalkyl which is unsubstituted or mono-, di- or tri-substituted on the phenyl by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; or tetrahydrofurfuryl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkyl substituted in the 2-, 3- or 4-position by C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxy, by di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl)-amino or by a group of the formula (III) ##STR52## where X.sub.4 is a direct bond, --O--, --CH.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 -- or H.sub.3 C--N<, or R.sub.6 is a group of the formula (IV), ##STR53## with R.sub.4 as defined above, R.sub.7 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 alkanediyl, R.sub.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, phenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxy or OH, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 which are identical or different are C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl or phenyl, or R.sub.2 is also hydrogen, m+n is a number from 1 to 100, n varies from zero to 90% of the sum of m+n, X.sub.1 is as defined for R.sub.1 X.sub.2 is hydrogen, or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, and, when m+n is a number from 3 to 10, X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 together also form a direct bond; each of the groups R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and A have the same definition or different definitions in the recurring structural units contained in formula (I) and, when the compounds of the formula (I) are copolymeric, they have a random distribution or a block distribution of the individual structural units.
- 2. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which R.sub.4 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, OH, C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 alkoxy, C.sub.5 -C.sub.8 cycloalkoxy, allyl, benzyl or acetyl.
- 3. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which A is a group of formula (IIb) the R.sub.6 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.8 cycloalkyl which is unsubstituted or mono-, di- or tri-substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; benzyl which is unsubstituted or mono-, di- or tri-substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; tetrahydrofurfuryl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkyl substituted in the 2- or 3-position by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, by di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)-amino or by a 1-pyrrolidyl, 1-piperidyl or 4-morpholinyl group, or R.sub.6 is a group of the formula (IV), R.sub.7 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.11 alkanediyl, R.sub.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, phenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy or OH, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 which are identical or different are C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl or phenyl or R.sub.2 is also hydrogen, m+n is a number from 1 to 80 and n varies from zero to 90% of the sum m+n, X.sub.1 is as defined for R.sub.1, X.sub.2 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, and, when m+n is a number from 3 to 10, X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 together also form a direct bond.
- 4. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which A is a formula (IIb) R.sub.6 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl, cyclohexyl which is unsubstituted or mono-, di- or trisubstituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; benzyl, tetrahydrofurfuryl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkyl substituted in the 2- or 3-position by methoxy, by ethoxy, by dimethylamino, by diethylamino or by 4-morpholinyl, or R.sub.6 is a group of the formula (IV) R.sub.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, phenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy or OH, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 which are identical or different are C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or phenyl, or R.sub.2 is also hydrogen, m+n is a number from 1 to 60 and n varies from zero to 90% of the sum m+n, X.sub.1 is as defined for R.sub.1, X.sub.2 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl and, when m+n is a number from 3 to 10, X.sub. 1 and X.sub.2 together also form a direct bond.
- 5. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which A is a group of the formula (IIb) in which R.sub.6 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, cyclohexyl, benzyl, tetrahydrofurfuryl or a group of the formula (IV), R.sub.7 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkanediyl, R.sub.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy or OH, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl or R.sub.2 is also hydrogen, m+n is a number from 1 to 50 and n varies from zero to 75% of the sum m+n, X.sub.1 is as defined for R.sub.1, X.sub.2 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, and, when m+n is a number from 3 to 10, X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 together also form a direct bond.
- 6. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which A is a group of the formula (IIb) in which R.sub.4 is hydrogen or methyl, R.sub.6 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl or 1,2,2,6,6-pentamethyl-4-piperidyl and R.sub.7 is trimethylene, R.sub.1 is methyl, methoxy, ethoxy or OH, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are methyl, m+n is a number from 1 to 40, n varies from zero to 50% of the sum m+n, X.sub.1 is as defined for R.sub.1 and X.sub.2 is hydrogen, methyl ethyl, and, when m+n is a number from 3 to 10, X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 together also form a direct bond.
- 7. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which A is a group of the formula ##STR54## where R.sub.4 is hydrogen or methyl and R.sub.6 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl.
- 8. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which A is a group of the formula (IIb) in which R.sub.4 is hydrogen or methyl, R.sub.6 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, R.sub.7 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkanediyl, R.sub.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy or OH, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl or R.sub.2 is also hydrogen, m+n is a number from 1 to 50 and n varies from zero to 75% of the sum m+n, X.sub.1 is as defined for R.sub.1 or X.sub.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, and, when m+n is a number from 3 to 10, X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 together also form a direct bond.
- 9. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which n is zero and the repeating structural unit of the formula ##STR55## corresponds to ##STR56##
- 10. A composition comprising a synthetic polymer susceptible to degradation induced by light, heat and oxidation and an effective stabilizing amount of a compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1.
- 11. A composition according to claim 10, in which the synthetic polymer is a polyolefin.
- 12. A composition according to claim 10, in which the synthetic polymer is polyethylene or polypropylene.
- 13. A method for stabilizing a synthetic polymer against degradation induced by light, heat and oxidation, which comprises incorporating into said synthetic polymer an effective stabilizing amount of a compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1.
