Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula (I) ##STR50## in which A is one of the groups of the formulae (IIa)-(IIb), ##STR51## alkoxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkenyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.9 phenylalkyl which is unsubstituted or mono-, di- or tri-substituted on the phenyl by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 acyl, X.sub.3 is --O-- or >N--R.sub.12 where R.sub.12 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.12 cycloalkyl which is unsubstituted or mono-, di- or tri-substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; C.sub.7 -C.sub.9 phenylalkyl which is unsubstituted or mono-, di- or tri-substituted on the phenyl by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; or tetrahydrofurfuryl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkyl substituted in the 2-, 3- or 4-position by C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxy, by di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl)-amino or by a group of the formula (III) ##STR52## where X.sub.4 is a direct bond, --O--, --CH.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 -- or H.sub.3 C-N<, or R.sub.12 is a group of the formula (IV), ##STR53## with R.sub.4 as defined above, or R.sub.12 is one of the groups of the formulae (Va)-(Vd) ##STR54## where R.sub.4 is as defined above, X.sub.5 is --O-- or >N--CH.sub.3 and X.sub.6 is --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, --CO--, --COCO-- or --COCH.sub.2 CO--, or X.sub.3 is a 1,4-piperazinediyl group, p is 1, 2 or 3 and, when p is 1, R.sub.5 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.18 alkanediyl and, when p is 2, R.sub.5 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.20 alkanetriyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.7 cycloalkanetriyl or C.sub.7 -C.sub.9 bicycloalkanetriyl or a group ##STR55## where X.sub.7 is --O-- or >N--R.sub.14 with R.sub.14 being C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 acyl or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxy)-carbonyl, R.sub.13 is C.sub.3 -C.sub.12 alkanediyl and q is 0 or 1, and, when p is 3, R.sub.5 is C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkanetetrayl, R.sub.6 is as defined above for R.sub.12, R.sub.7 is R.sub.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, phenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxy or OH, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 which are identical or different are C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl or phenyl, or R.sub.2 is also hydrogen, m+n is a number from 1 to 100, n varies from zero to 90% of the sum of m+n, X.sub.1 is as defined for R.sub.1 or is a group (R.sub.15).sub.3 SiO-- with R.sub.15 being C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl or phenyl, X.sub.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, a group (R.sub.15).sub.3 Si-- or, when R.sub.1 and X.sub.1 are C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl or phenyl, X.sub.2 is additionally a group ##STR56## and, when m+n is a number from 3 to 10, X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 together also form a direct bond; each of the groups R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and A have the same definition or different definitions in the recurring structural units contained in formula (I) and, when the compounds of the formula (I) are copolymeric, they have a random distribution or a block distribution of the individual structural units.
- 2. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which R.sub.4 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, OH, C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 alkoxy, C.sub.5 -C.sub.6 cycloalkoxy, allyl, benzyl or acetyl.
- 3. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which A is one of the groups of the formulae (IIa)-(IIb) in which X.sub.3 is --O-- or >N--R.sub.12 where R.sub.12 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.8 cycloalkyl which is unsubstituted or mono-, di- or tri-substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; benzyl which is unsubstituted or mono-, di- or tri-substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; tetrahydrofurfuryl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkyl substituted in the 2- or 3-position by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, by di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)-amino or by a 1-pyrrolidyl, 1-piperidyl or 4-morpholinyl group, or R.sub.12 is a group of the formula (IV) or one of the groups of the formulae (Va)-(Vd) in which X.sub.5 is --O-- or >N--CH.sub.3 and X.sub.6 is --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, --CO-- or --COCO--, or X.sub.3 is a 1,4-piperazinediyl group, p is 1, 2 or 3 and, when p is 1, R.sub.5 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 alkanediyl and, when p is 2, R.sub.5 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.16 alkanetriyl, C.sub.6 -C.sub.7 cycloalkanetriyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.9 bicycloalkanetriyl or a group ##STR57## where X.sub.7 is --O-- or >N--R.sub.14 with R.sub.14 being C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 acyl or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy)-carbonyl, R.sub.13 is C.sub.3 -C.sub.11 -alkanediyl and q is zero or 1, and, when p is 3, R.sub.5 is C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkanetetrayl, R.sub.6 is as defined above for R.sub.12, R.sub.7 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.11 alkanediyl, R.sub.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, phenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy or OH, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 which are identical or different are C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl or phenyl or R.sub.2 is also hydrogen, m+n is a number from 1 to 80 and n varies from zero to 90% of the sum m+n, X.sub.1 is as defined for R.sub.1 or is a group (R.sub.15).sub.3 SiO-- with R.sub.15 being C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, X.sub.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, a group (R.sub.15).sub.3 Si-- or, when R.sub.1 and X.sub.1 are C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl or phenyl, X.sub.2 is additionally a group ##STR58## and, when m+n is a number from 3 to 10, X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 together also form a direct bond.
- 4. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which A is one of the groups of the formulae (IIa)-(IIb) in which X.sub.3 is --O-- or >N--R.sub.12 where R.sub.12 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl, cyclohexyl which is unsubstituted or mono-, di- or trisubstituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; benzyl, tetrahydrofurfuryl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkyl substituted in the 2- or 3-position by methoxy, by ethoxy, by dimethylamino, by diethylamino or by 4-morpholinyl, or R.sub.12 is a group of the formula (IV) or one of the groups of the formulae (Va)-(Vd) in which X.sub.5 is --O-- or >N--CH.sub.3 and X.sub.6 is --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 -- or --CO--, or X.sub.3 is a 1,4-piperazinediyl group, p is 1, 2 or 3 and, when p is 1, R.sub.5 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.10 alkanediyl and, when p is 2, R.sub.5 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.14 alkanetriyl, cyclohexanetriyl or bicycloheptanetriyl or a group ##STR59## where X.sub.7 is --O-- or >N--R.sub.14 with R.sub.14 being C.sub.1 -.sub.4 acyl or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy)-carbonyl, R.sub.13 is trimethylene and q is zero or 1, and, when p is 3, R.sub.5 is propanetetrayl, R.sub.6 is as defined above for R.sub.12, R.sub.7 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.11 alkanediyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, phenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy or OH, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 which are identical or different are C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or phenyl, or R.sub.2 is also hydrogen, m+n is a number from 1 to 60 and n varies from zero to 90% of the sum m+n, X.sub.1 is as defined for R.sub.1 or is a group (R.sub.15).sub.3 SiO-- with R.sub.15 being C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, X.sub.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, a group (R.sub.15).sub.3 Si-- or, when R.sub.1 and X.sub.1 are C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or phenyl, X.sub.2 is additionally a group ##STR60## and, when m+n is a number from 3 to 10, X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 together also form a direct bond.
- 5. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which A is a group of the formula (IIa) or (IIb) in which X.sub.3 is --O-- or >N--R.sub.12 where R.sub.12 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, cyclohexyl, benzyl, tetrahydrofurfuryl, a group of the formula (IV) or a group of the formula (Va) or (Vb) in which X.sub.5 is --O-- or >N--CH.sub.3 and X.sub.6 is --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 -- or X.sub.3 is a 1,4-piperazinediyl group, p is 1 or 2 and, when p is 1, R.sub.5 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.10 alkanediyl and, when p is 2, R.sub.5 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.14 alkanetriyl, R.sub.6 is as defined above for R.sub.12, R.sub.7 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkanediyl, R.sub.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy or OH, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl or R.sub.2 is also hydrogen, m+n is a number from 1 to 50 and n varies from zero to 75% of the sum m+n, X.sub.1 is as defined for R.sub.1 or is a group (R.sub.15).sub.3 SiO-- with R.sub.15 being C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, X.sub.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, a group (R.sub.15).sub.3 Si-- or, when R.sub.1 and X.sub.1 are C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, X.sub.2 is additionally a group ##STR61## and, when m+n is a number from 3 to 10, X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 together also form a direct bond.
- 6. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which A is a group of the formula (IIa) or (IIb) in which R.sub.4 is hydrogen or methyl, X.sub.3 is --O-- or --NH--, p is 1 or 2, and when p is 1, R.sub.5 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.10 alkanediyl and, when p is 2, R.sub.5 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.14 alkanetriyl, R.sub.6 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl or 1,2,2,6,6-pentamethyl-4-piperidyl and R.sub.7 is trimethylene, R.sub.1 is methyl, methoxy, ethoxy or OH, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are methyl, m+n is a number from 1 to 40, n varies from zero to 50% of the sum m+n, X.sub.1 is as defined for R.sub.1 or is a group (CH.sub.3).sub.3 SiO-- and X.sub.2 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, a group (CH.sub.3).sub.3 Si-- or, when R.sub.1 and X.sub.1 are methyl, X.sub.2 is additionally a group ##STR62## and, when m+n is a number from 3 to 10, X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 together also form a direct bond.
- 7. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which A is a group of the formula ##STR63## where R.sub.4 is hydrogen or methyl, X.sub.3 is --O-- or --NH-- and R.sub.5 ' is ethylene, propylene or decamethylene.
- 8. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which A is a group of the formula ##STR64## where R.sub.4 is hydrogen or methyl, X.sub.3 is --O-- or --NH-- and R.sub.5 " is a group --CH.sub.2 --CH< or >CH--(CH.sub.2).sub.3 --.
- 9. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which A is a group of the formula ##STR65## where R.sub.4 is hydrogen or methyl and R.sub.6 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl.
- 10. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which A is a group of the formulae (IIa) or (IIb) in which R.sub.4 is hydrogen or methyl, X.sub.3 is --O-- or >N--R.sub.12 where R.sub.12 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, p is 1 or 2 and, when p is 1, R.sub.5 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.10 alkanediyl and, when p is 2, R.sub.5 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.14 alkanetriyl, R.sub.6 is as defined above for R.sub.12, R.sub.7 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkanediyl, R.sub.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy or OH, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl or R.sub.2 is also hydrogen, m+n is a number from 1 to 50 and n varies from zero to 75% of the sum m+n, X.sub.1 is as defined for R.sub.1 or is a group (R.sub.15).sub.3 SiO-- with R.sub.15 being C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, X.sub.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, a group (R.sub.15).sub.3 Si-- or, when R.sub.1 and X.sub.1 are C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, X.sub.2 is additionally a group ##STR66## and, when m+n is a number from 3 to 10, X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 together also form a direct bond.
- 11. A compound according to claim 1, which is ##STR67##
- 12. A compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, in which n is zero and the repeating structural unit of the formula ##STR68## corresponds to ##STR69##
- 13. A composition comprising a synthetic polymer susceptible to degradation induced by light, heat and oxidation and an effective stabilizing amount of a compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1.
- 14. A composition according to claim 13, in which the synthetic polymer is a polyolefin.
- 15. A composition according to claim 13, in which the synthetic polymer is polyethylene or polypropylene.
- 16. A method for stabilizing a synthetic polymer against degradation induced by light, heat and oxidation, which comprises incorporating into said synthetic polymer an effective stabilizing amount of a compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1.
