Claims
- 1. A process for conveying drinking water which comprises passing drinkable water through a pipe comprising a plurality of layers, wherein the inner most layer comprising a polyolefin is covered with an outer layer comprising a thermoplastic polymer which is impervious to hydrocarbons, wherein the polyolefin is selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polypropylene, copolymers of ethylene and of an alpha-olefin, copolymers of ethylene and of esters of unsaturated carboxylic acids, copolymers of ethylene and of vinyl derivatives of saturated carboxylic acids, and mixtures thereof; and the outer layer is 15 to 100 times less permeable to hydrocarbons than polyethylene, wherein the thermoplastic polymer impervious to hydrocarbons is selected from the group consisting of polyvinylidene fluoride, copolymers of ethylene and of vinyl alcohol, polyesters, and mixtures of polyamides with polyolefins.
- 2. The process according to claim 1, wherein a binder is placed between the inner most layer of polyolefin and the outer layer of thermoplastic polymer which is impervious to hydrocarbons.
- 3. The process according to claim 2, wherein the binder comprises a polyolefin selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polypropylene and copolymers of ethylene with at least one alpha olefin wherein the polyolefin of the binder is grafted with maleic anhydride.
- 4. The process according to claim 2, wherein the binder comprises a copolymer of ethylene and of alkyl (meth)acrylate, wherein the copolymer is grafted with glycidyl (meth)acrylate.
- 5. The process according to claim 1, wherein there is no layer of binder between the polyolefin layer and the thermoplastic layer.
- 6. The process according to claim 1, wherein the inner layer of polyolefin and the outer layer are coextruded to form the pipes.
- 7. The process according to claim 1, wherein the inner most layer has a thickness of 30 to 60 mm for external diameters up to 800 mm and of 2 to 6 mm for external diameters of 20 mm.
- 8. A process for conveying drinking water which comprises passing drinkable water through a pipe comprising a plurality of layers, wherein the inner most layer comprises a polyolefin and wherein there is an outer layer of thermoplastic polymer impervious to hydrocarbons comprising PVDF, and wherein the polyolefin layer and the outer layer comprising PVDF are bound with a mixture comprising polyalkyl methacrylate, acrylic or methacrylic elastomer, and PVDF.
