- (iii) stopping means for limiting rotation of said plate, by engaging a portion of said plate, wherein said stopping means in secured integral with said ski, so as to limit pivoting of said pivotable plate, said device further comprising return means for returning said pivotable plate to the centered position ready for insertion of said boot after said pivotable plate has been rotated, wherein said return means comprises at least one ramp adapted to be fixed onto the upper surface of said ski and said ramp is adapted to extend from the center longitudinal axis of said ski to one of its lateral edges, wherein said braking assembly comprises an element for engaging said ramp to return said pivotable plate to the centered position.
- 6. The device as defined by claim 5 wherein said element comprising said braking assembly is movable.
- 7. The device as defined by claim 1 wherein said stopping means comprises a shoulder adapted to be positioned along the longitudinal axis of said ski, and wherein said pivotable plate comprises a projection adapted to abut said shoulder during pivoting of said pivotable plate, thereby stopping the pivoting of said pivotable plate.
- 8. A device adapted to be mounted on a ski comprising:
- (a) a first maintenance element;
- (b) a pivotable plate adapted to pivot around an axis substantially perpendicular to said ski while remaining secured to said ski, and comprising a second maintenance element whereby said first maintenance element and said pivotable plate are each adapted to be mounted on a ski such that said first maintenance element and said second maintenance element may serve to securely maintain the ends of a ski boot mounted on said ski while laterally releasing said boot when said boot is subjected to a torsional force relative to said ski;
- (c) a braking element mounted on and pivoting laterally with said pivotable plate and comprising:
- (i) at least one braking element adapted to shift between active and inactive position, said braking element being normally biased to the active position; and
- (ii) at least one boot-sensitive element for shifting the braking element to the inactive position as said boot is mounted on said ski; and
- (d) stopping means for limiting rotation of said pivotable plate and for cooperating with an element connected to move with said pivotable plate to facilitate insertion of said ski boot between said first maintenance element and said second maintenance element without manual manipulation of said pivotable plate.
- 9. A device adapted to be mounted on a ski comprising:
- (a) a first maintenance element;
- (b) a pivotable plate adapted to pivot around an axis substantially perpendicular to said ski while remaining secured to said ski, and comprising a second maintenance element, whereby said first maintenance element and said pivotable plate are each adapted to be mounted on a ski such that said first and second maintenance elements may serve to securely maintain the ends of a ski boot mounted on said ski while laterally releasing said boot from said ski when said boot is subjected to a torsional force relative to said ski;
- (c) a braking assembly pivoting with said pivotable plate and comprising:
- (i) at least one braking element adapted to shift between active and inactive positions, said braking element being normally biased to the active position; and
- (ii) at least one boot sensitive element for shifting the braking element to the inactive position as said boot is mounted on said ski;
- (d) stopping means for limiting rotation of said pivotable plate and for cooperating with an element connected to move with said pivotable plate when said braking assembly is in the active position to facilitate insertion of said ski boot between said first maintenance element and said second maintenance element without manipulation of said pivotable plate;
- (e) return means for realigning said pivotable plate to a position of insertion of said boot after said pivotable plate has been pivoted to a position in which it is not aligned such that a boot may be inserted between said first and second maintenance elements; and
- (f) a second braking element for engaging said return means when said pivotable plate has been pivoted to a position in which said plate is unaligned with said ski.
- 10. The device defined by claim 9 wherein first and second braking elements are attached to each other and pivot with each other wherein said return means comprises a ramp extending above the top surface of said ski, wherein engagement of said second braking element with said ramp causes said first and second braking elements to pivot into alignment with said ski, thereby realigning said plate.
- 11. The device defined by claim 5 wherein said stopping means limits rotation of said plate when said braking assembly is in the active position.
- 12. The device defined by claim 1 wherein said stopping means permits rotation of said plate for release of said boot and prevents rotation of said plate beyond a point sufficient to facilitate insertion of said boot between said maintenance elements without manual manipulation of said plate.
- 13. The device defined by claim 1 wherein said first maintenance element comprises means for only engaging said boot.
- 14. The device defined by claim 1 in combination with said ski wherein said first maintenance element is spaced from said plate on said ski.
