Claims
- 1. A planar display device comprising:
- an electron emission source for emitting electrons to a phosphor screen provided on an inside surface of a sealed container;
- a surface insulated substrate being composed of a conductive substrate and an insulating layer said surface insulated substrate being provided between the electron emission source and the phosphor screen and provided with a plurality of electron-passing holes;
- a control electrode portion including a plurality of conductive films having a passing electron controlling potential applied thereto;
- a conductive substrate exposed portion formed on a portion of said surface insulted substrate and composed of a portion of the conductive substrate without the insulating layer; and
- a voltage applying circuit applying a predetermined voltage to the conductive substrate exposed portion
- wherein each of the plurality of conductive films cover a part of an inside surface of at least one of the plurality of electron passing holes.
- 2. A planar display device comprising:
- an electron emission source for emitting electrons to a phosphor screen provided on an inside surface of a sealed container;
- a surface insulated substrate being composed of a conductive substrate and an insulating layer said surface insulated substrate being provided between the electron emission source and the phosphor screen and provided with a plurality of electron-passing holes;
- a control electrode portion including a plurality of conductive films having a passing electron controlling potential applied thereto;
- a conductive substrate exposed portion formed on a portion of said surface insulted substrate and composed of a portion of the conductive substrate without the insulating layer; and
- a voltage applying circuit applying a predetermined pulse voltage to the conductive substrate exposed portion
- wherein each of the plurality of conductive films cover a part of an inside surface of at least one of the plurality of electron passing holes.
- 3. A planar display device comprising:
- an electron emission source for emitting electrons to a phosphor screen provided on an inside surface of a sealed container;
- a surface insulated substrate being composed of a conductive substrate and an insulating layer said surface insulated substrate being provided between the electron emission source and the phosphor screen and provided with a plurality of electron-passing holes;
- a control electrode portion including a plurality of conductive films having a passing electron controlling potential applied thereto;
- a plurality of conductive substrate exposed portions formed on a plurality of portions of said surface insulated substrate by providing the insulating layer only at the portions of the surface insulated substrate on which the plurality of conductive films are formed; and
- a voltage applying circuit applying a predetermined voltage to the conductive substrate exposed portions
- wherein each of the plurality of conductive films cover a part of an inside surface of at least one of the plurality of electron passing holes.
- 4. A planar display device comprising:
- an electron emission source for emitting electrons to a phosphor screen provided on an inside surface of a sealed container;
- a surface insulated substrate being composed of a conductive substrate covered by an insulating layer wherein said surface insulated substrate is provided between the electron emission source and the phosphor screen, and provided with a plurality of electron passing holes;
- a control electrode portion including a plurality of first parallel strip electrodes having a first passing electron potential applied thereto and a plurality of second parallel strip electrodes perpendicular to said first parallel strip electrodes having a second passing electron potential applied thereto;
- a conductive substrate exposed portion formed on a portion of said surface insulated substrate and composed of a portion of the conductive substrate without the insulating layer, and
- a voltage applying circuit applying a predetermined voltage to the conductive substrate exposed portion.
- 5. The planar display device of claim 4 wherein the predetermined voltage is lower than the first passing electron controlling potential.
- 6. The planar display device of claim 4 wherein the predetermined voltage is not more than 0 volts.
- 7. The planar display device of claim 4 wherein said predetermined voltage is lower than a voltage applied to the second parallel strip electrodes in the off state.
- 8. The planar display device of claim 4 wherein the voltage applying circuit applies a predetermined pulse voltage to the conductive substrate exposed portion.
- 9. The planar display device of claim 8 wherein the predetermined pulse voltage is less than a voltage applied to the second parallel strip electrodes in the off state and wherein the predetermined pulse voltage is applied at a predetermined time.
- 10. The planar display device of claim 9 wherein the predetermined time is before the first or second passing electron controlling potentials are applied.
- 11. The planar display device of claim 10 wherein the predetermined time is approximately 0 to 6 microseconds before the first or second passing electron controlling potentials are applied.
- 12. The planar display device of claim 9 wherein the predetermined time occurs after the first or second passing electron controlling potentials are applied.
