Claims
- 1. A layered plasma display panel filter, comprising:
a first layer and a second layer disposed in contact with one another, wherein said first layer comprises: polyvinyl butyral or ethylene vinyl acetate; and, a phthalocyanine dye or a dithiol metal complex dye.
- 2. The filter of claim 1, wherein said second layer comprises polyethylene terephthalate.
- 3. The filter of claim 1, wherein said second layer is a glass layer.
- 4. The filter of claim 3, further comprising a third layer disposed in contact with said first layer, wherein said third layer comprises polyethylene terephthalate.
- 5. The filter of claim 1, wherein said first layer comprises a dithiol metal complex dye.
- 6. The filter of claim 1, wherein said dithiol metal complex dye is nickel complexed.
- 7. The filter of claim 1, wherein said first layer comprises a phthalocyanine dye.
- 8. The filter of claim 7, wherein said phthalocyanine dye is 0.01 to 0.20% on a weight/weight basis of said first layer.
- 9. A layered plasma display panel filter, comprising:
a first layer comprising polyvinyl butyral or ethylene vinyl acetate; a second layer disposed in contact with said first layer, wherein said second layer comprises a polymeric material; a third layer disposed in contact with said first layer, wherein said third layer comprises glass; a fourth layer disposed in contact with said second layer, wherein, said fourth layer comprises polyvinyl butyral or ethylene vinyl acetate; and, a fifth layer disposed in contact with said fourth layer, wherein said fifth layer comprises a polymeric material.
- 10. The filter of claim 9, wherein said second layer further comprises an electromagnetic shield.
- 11. The filter of claim 9, wherein said electromagnetic shield comprises copper.
- 12. The filter of claim 9, wherein said fifth layer comprises an antireflective material.
- 13. The filter of claim 9, wherein said first layer and said fourth layer comprise polyvinyl butyral, and said second layer and said fifth layer comprise polyethylene terephthalate.
- 14. A polymer sheet comprising:
a plasticized thermoplastic polymer; and a functional additive system, wherein said functional additive system comprises a phthalocyanine dye.
- 15. The polymer sheet of claim 14, wherein said plasticized thermoplastic polymer comprises polyvinyl butyral.
- 16. The polymer sheet of claim 15, wherein said functional additive system is 0.1 to 2% by weight of said polymer sheet.
- 17. The polymer sheet of claim 16, wherein the sheet has the following optical properties when produced at a thickness of 450 microns and laminated between two 2 mm thick panes of glass:
a transmission below 1% over the range of 300-380 nm a transmission from 35% to 70% over the ranges of 400-582 nm and 596-780 nm a transmission of less than 50% over the range of 583-595 nm variation of less than 10% over the ranges of 420-579 nm and 611-800 nm a transmission of less than 15% over the range of 800-1,000 nm a transmission of less than 10% over the range of 820 to 980 nm and a color transmission value a* in the range−5 to 5 and a b* value in the range −10 to 5.
- 18. The polymer sheet of claim 16, wherein said functional additive system, on a weight/weight basis, comprises:
0-50% of a UV stabilizer; 1 to 10% of a porphyrin dye; 49 to 96% of a phthalocyanine dye; and, 0 to 50% of an organic dye.
- 19. The polymer sheet of claim 18, wherein the sheet has the following optical properties when produced at a thickness of 450 microns and laminated between two 2 mm thick panes of glass:
a transmission below 1% over the range of 300-380 nm a transmission from 35% to 65% over the ranges of 400-582 nm and 596-780 nm a transmission of less than 50% over the range of 583-595 nm variation of less than 10% over the ranges of 420-579 nm and 611-800 nm a transmission of less than 15% over the range of 800-1,000 nm a transmission of less than 10% over the range of 820 to 980 nm and a color transmission value a* in the range −5 to 5 and a b* value in the range −10 to 5.
- 20. A method of manufacturing a plasma display panel filter, comprising:
disposing a multiple layer polymeric construct in contact with a glass panel; and, laminating said multiple layer polymeric construct to said glass panel, wherein said multiple layer polymeric construct comprises: a first layer comprising polyvinyl butyral or ethylene vinyl acetate; a second layer disposed in contact with said first layer, wherein said second layer comprises a polymeric material; a third layer disposed in contact with said second layer, wherein, said third layer comprises polyvinyl butyral or ethylene vinyl acetate; and, a fourth layer disposed in contact with said third layer, wherein said fourth layer comprises a polymeric material.
