Claims
- 1. An air duct comprising a pliable sheet configured to convey air, wherein the pliable sheet has a porosity formed by an emorizing or sueding process, wherein the pliable sheet includes a plurality of discharge openings that each provide a first area and wherein the porosity of the pliable sheet provides a plurality of second areas, with the first area being greater than the second open area.
- 2. The air duct of claim 1, wherein the first open area is at least twice as great as the second open area.
- 3. The air duct of claim 1, wherein the air duct has a uniform cross-sectional shape across a tubular length of the air duct.
- 4. The air duct of claim 3, wherein the uniform cross-sectional shape is selected from the group consisting of circular in shape, ½ round in shape, and ¼ round in shape.
- 5. The air duct of claim 1, wherein the air duct has a non-uniform cross-sectional shape across a tubular length of the air duct.
- 6. The air duct of claim 1, wherein the pliable sheet comprises a fabric base and a plastic coating on the fabric base.
- 7. The air duct of claim 6, wherein the fabric base is porous and the plastic coating is applied on the fabric base to substantially eliminate the porosity of the fabric base.
- 8. The air duct of claim 1, further comprising a track affixed to the air duct for mounting the air duct against a support member, wherein the track extends along a tubular length of the air duct.
- 9. An air duct, comprising a pliable sheet configured to convey air, wherein the pliable sheet includes a fabric base material that is porous and a plastic coating on the fabric base material that reduces the porosity of the fabric base material yet leaves the pliable sheet porous, wherein the pliable sheet includes a plurality of discharge openings that provide a first open area and the porosity of the pliable sheet provides a second open area with the first open area being greater than the second open area.
- 10. The air duct of claim 9, wherein the air duct has a uniform cross-sectional shape, across a tubular length of the air duct, selected from the group consisting of circular in shape, ½ round in shape, and ¼ round in shape.
- 11. A method of creating an air duct comprising:
applying pressure to a pliable sheet having a porosity below a desired porosity to increase the porosity of the pliable sheet to the desired porosity; and configuring the pliable sheet to convey air.
- 12. The method of claim 11, wherein the pliable sheet comprises a porous fabric base material, the method further comprising:
applying a plastic coating on the fabric base material to remove the porosity of the fabric base material; and applying pressure to the pliable sheet to increase the porosity of the pliable sheet.
- 13. The method of claim 12, wherein applying pressure to the pliable sheet partially removes the plastic coating from the fabric base.
- 14. The method of claim 12, further comprising perforating the pliable sheet.
- 15. The method of claim 11, further comprising emorizing the pliable sheet.
- 16. The method of claim 15, wherein emorizing the pliable sheet comprises pressing the pliable sheet against an abrasion surface.
- 17. The method of claim 11, further comprising sueding the pliable sheet.
- 18. The method of claim 17, where in sueding the pliable sheet further comprises pressing the pliable sheet against a napping surface.
- 19. The method of claim 11, wherein the pliable sheet is non-porous before the application of the pressure.
- 20. The method of claim 11, wherein the pliable sheet comprises a fabric base having an air permeability and a plastic coating on the fabric base that reduces the air permeability.
- 21. The method of claim 11, further comprising forming the pliable sheet into a tubular length.
- 22. The method of claim 21, further comprising forming the pliable sheet with a uniform cross-sectional shape across the tubular length, wherein the uniform cross-sectional shape is selected from the group consisting of circular in shape, ½ round in shape, and ¼ round in shape.
- 23. The method of claim 21, further comprising forming the pliable sheet with a non-uniform cross-sectional shape across the tubular length.
- 24. The method of claim 11, further comprising heating the pliable sheet.
- 25. A method of creating an air duct comprising:
applying pressure to a pliable sheet to decrease a porosity of the pliable sheet; after the application of the pressure, applying a plastic coating to the pliable sheet; and configuring the pliable sheet to convey air.
- 26. The method of claim 24, wherein the applying pressure includes calendering the pliable sheet.
- 27. The method of claim 24, further comprising heating the pliable sheet.
- 28. The method of claim 24, further comprising forming the pliable sheet into a tubular length.
