Claims
- 1. A pneumatic mail delivery system, comprising:a carrier defining first and second open ends for receiving contents therethrough, said carrier having first and second covers for selectively closing said first and second open ends, respectively; a first carrier terminal having a first front panel defining a first opening, said first carrier terminal including a first door hingedly mounted to said first front panel for selectively closing said first opening; first means mounted to said first carrier terminal for sensing a closure of said first door; a second carrier terminal having a second front panel defining a second opening, said second carrier terminal including a second door hingedly mounted to said second front panel thereof for selectively closing said second opening; second means mounted to said second carrier terminal for sensing a closure of said second door; an elongate pneumatic conduit interconnecting said first and second terminals and defining an internal space within which said carrier is guided between said first and second carrier terminals; means for exerting a force on said carrier so as to convey said receptacle from said first carrier terminal to said second carrier terminal upon said first sensing means sensing a closure of said first door and from said second carrier terminal to said first carrier terminal upon said second sensing means sensing a closure of said second door.
- 2. The pneumatic mail delivery system as in claim 1 wherein said means for exerting a force comprises a blower in communication with said conduit and electrically connected to said first and second sensing means, said blower being adapted to actuate an air pressure differential within said conduit capable of moving said carrier between said first and second terminals when energized selectably by said first and second sensing means.
- 3. The pneumatic mail delivery system as in claim 1 wherein said first and second covers are hingedly coupled to said carrier at said first and second open ends, respectively, each cover being selectably movable between open and closed configurations and being spring biased to said open configurations.
- 4. The pneumatic mail delivery system as in claim 3 further comprising a pair of latches positioned at respective open ends of said carrier, each latch having a base mounted to a respective rim of said carrier and having a magnetic pin reciprocatively mounted in a respective base and adapted to selectably hold a respective cover at said closed configuration and release said respective cover to said open configuration.
- 5. The pneumatic mail delivery system as in claim 1 further comprising latch means for selectably holding said first and second covers in a closed configuration relative to said first and second open ends and releasing said first and second covers to an open configuration relative to said first and second open ends.
- 6. The pneumatic mail delivery system as in claim 1 further comprising:a first photoelectric light sensor mounted to said first carrier terminal; a first light source mounted to said first front panel of said first carrier terminal and electrically connected to said first photoelectric light sensor, said first photoelectric light sensor adapted to energize said first light source upon detecting contents within said carrier; a second photoelectric light sensor mounted to said second carrier terminal; a second light source mounted to said second front panel of said second carrier terminal and electrically connected to said second photoelectric light sensor, said second photoelectric light sensor adapted to energize said second light source upon detecting contents within said carrier.
- 7. The pneumatic mail delivery system as in claim 1 further comprising a pair of oppositely positioned guide tracks extending longitudinally along an inner surface of said conduit; andwherein said carrier includes a pair of sealing rings, each sealing ring extending peripherally about respective open ends and having a diameter substantially the same as a diameter of said conduit so as to provide an air seal between said conduit and said carrier, each sealing ring defining a pair of oppositely positioned grooves complementary to said pair of guide tracks such that said carrier is guided along said guide tracks within said internal space of said conduit.
- 8. The pneumatic mail delivery system as in claim 1 wherein:said first and second doors are hingedly coupled to first and second front panels, respectively, with each door being selectably movable between open and closed configurations relative to respective first and second openings and being spring biased to respective open configurations; and each of said first and second sensing means includes a spring biased button positioned in a respective opening, each button being electrically connected to said means for exerting a force and adapted to enable said means for exerting a force to be energized upon a momentary depression thereof.
