Claims
- 1. An apparatus for attaching to a hollow pole having a wall and a mounting hole in the wall, the device comprising:
a support member, having an inserting portion, for placement in the mounting hole, and having a protruding portion, for extending from the pole; a plate, having a tongue bending toward the inside of the pole, for mating with the support member in the mounting hole.
- 2. An apparatus as in claim 1, wherein the plate defines an aperture for receiving the support member.
- 3. An apparatus as in claim 1, wherein the support member comprises a first leg and a second leg.
- 4. An apparatus as in claim 2, wherein the first leg and the second leg are substantially perpendicular.
- 5. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein the support member provides a horizontal stepping surface.
- 6. An apparatus as in claim 5 wherein the support member comprises a foot guard at an end of the support member opposite the pole.
- 7. An apparatus as in claim 1, further comprising a fastener for engaging the support member, such that the support member is secured to the pole.
- 8. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein a portion of the support member is threaded.
- 9. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein the support member is a bolt.
- 10. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein the support member is a screw.
- 11. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein the support member is a threaded rod.
- 12. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein the first leg is shorter than the second leg, wherein the first leg is for inserting into the mounting hole of the pole.
- 13. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein outer edges of the plate are bent inwardly to create a tight mating surface with exterior of the pole.
- 14. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein the tongue of the plate is formed by an aperture, comprising a semi-circular upper perimeter and a square lower perimeter defining a tongue, wherein the tongue bends away from the face of the plate and creates a flat surface.
- 15. An apparatus as in claim 1 further comprising a fastener, wherein the tongue of the plate embeds into the mounting hole so as to prevent the support member from rotating while the fastener is threaded onto the support member to secure it in place.
- 16. An apparatus as in claim 1, the support member further comprising a horizontal stake located at an outer radius defined by the intersection of the first and second legs, the stake substantially perpendicular to both the first and second legs.
- 17. An apparatus as in claim 16 wherein the tongue of the plate and the horizontal stake are for coupling the plate to the support member to prevent rotation or movement.
- 18. An apparatus as in claim 1 further comprising a guide washer abutting the plate, the washer having an aperture for receiving the support member, and having one or more spacing tabs for positioning the washer relative to the plate.
- 19. An apparatus as in claim 18, wherein the plate and the washer collectively define a gap such that objects may be attached.
- 20. An apparatus as in claim 19, wherein the objects to be attached are temporary pole steps.
- 21. An apparatus as in claim 19, wherein the objects to be attached comprise electrical equipment.
- 22. An apparatus as in claim 19, wherein the objects to be attached comprise telephonic equipment.
- 23. An apparatus as in claim 19, wherein the objects to be attached comprise pole climbing equipment.
- 24. An apparatus as in claim 19, wherein the objects to be attached comprise lifting equipment.
- 25. An apparatus as in claim 19, wherein the object to be attached is a pulley device.
- 26. An apparatus for attaching to hollow poles, comprising:
a hollow pole, having a wall and a mounting hole in the wall; a bolt having a first leg and a second leg, the first leg for inserting into a mounting hole of the pole, and the second leg for protruding out of the mounting hole; a plate with an aperture for receiving the second leg of the bolt, the aperture defining a tongue bending away from the face of the plate for mating with a lower portion of the bolt within the mounting hole; and a nut; wherein a portion of the second leg of the bolt is threaded to receive a nut.
- 27. An apparatus as in claim 26 wherein the first leg is shorter than the second leg.
- 28. An apparatus as in claim 26, the bolt further comprising a horizontal stake located at the outer radius defined by the intersection of the first and second legs, the stake substantially perpendicular to both the first and second legs.
- 29. An apparatus as in claim 26, wherein the tongue of the plate is for mating with the horizontal stake such that when the plate is in it operating position the tongue fills the mounting hole preventing rotation or movement of the bolt.
- 30. An apparatus as in claim 26 wherein the outer edges of the plate are bent inwardly to create a tight mating surface with exterior of the pole.
- 31. An apparatus for attaching to hollow poles, comprising:
a hollow pole, having a wall, and a mounting hole through the wall; a support member with an inserting portion, for inserting into a mounting hole of the pole, and a protruding portion, for protruding from the pole, wherein the inserting portion is substantially parallel to and abutting the wall of the pole; a plate with an aperture for receiving the protruding portion of the support member, the plate having a tongue bending away from the face of the plate for mating with a lower portion of the support member within the mounting hole; and a fastener.
- 32. An apparatus for attaching to hollow poles, comprising:
a bolt with a first leg and a second leg, wherein the first leg is inserted into a mounting hole of the pole, such that it is substantially parallel to and abutting the wall of the pole, and the second leg is protruded out of the mounting hole, such that it is substantially horizontal; a plate with a hole for receiving the second leg of the bolt, the hole having a tongue bending away from the face of the plate and mating with a lower portion of the bolt within the mounting hole so as to create a compact fit with the lower portion of the bolt; a guide washer abutting the plate, the washer having a hole for receiving the second leg of the bolt, and one or more tabs to provide spacing between the plate and the washer, such that a gap is formed between the plate and the washer; and a nut; wherein a portion of the second leg of the bolt is threaded to receive the nut.
- 33. An apparatus as in claim 32 wherein the bolt is substantially trapezoidal in cross section.
- 34. An apparatus as in claim 32 wherein the first leg and the second leg are substantially perpendicular to one another, wherein the first leg is inserted upwards into the mounting hole of the pole.
- 35. An apparatus as in claim 32, the bolt further comprising a horizontal stake located at the outer radius defined by the intersection of the first and second legs, the stake substantially perpendicular to both the first and second legs.
- 36. An apparatus as in claim 32 wherein the outer edges of the plate are bent inwardly to create a tight mating surface with exterior of the pole.
- 37. An attachment mount for attaching temporary steps or objects to a wall of a hollow pole, comprising:
a support member having a shear-away head at one end and a remaining head adjacent thereto; a bearing plate; and a collapsible cage, having an extended insertion position and a collapsed supporting position.
- 38. An apparatus as in claim 37, wherein the bearing plate further defines a tab protruding outward toward the remaining head of the support member, such that the tab prevents rotation of an installed object about the support member or the plate.
- 39. An apparatus as in claim 37 wherein the bearing plate has a first aperture, for receiving the support member, and a second aperture, for receiving a screw, such that the plate may be coupled to the pole.
- 40. An apparatus as in claim 37, wherein the collapsible cage has one or more positioning keys, such that its position is axially fixed relative to the plate and the bolt.
- 41. An apparatus as in claim 37, wherein portions of the cage are bent to increase rigidity.
- 42. An apparatus as in claim 37, wherein the outside edges of the plate are bent inwardly to provide a tight mating surface with the exterior of the hollow pole.
- 43. An apparatus as in claim 37, wherein the bearing plate and the collapsible cage are on opposite sides of the wall of the pole.
- 44. An apparatus as in claim 37 wherein the shear-away head of the support member may be twisted off with a predetermined amount of torque, leaving the remaining head at the end of the support member.
- 45. An apparatus as in claim 37 wherein the support member is threaded.
- 46. An apparatus as in claim 37 wherein the support member is a bolt.
- 47. An apparatus as in claim 37 wherein the support member is a screw.
- 48. An apparatus as in claim 37 wherein the support member is a threaded rod.
- 49. An apparatus as in claim 37, wherein the collapsible cage is threaded for coupling with the support member.
- 50. An apparatus as in claim 37, wherein the collapsible cage provides guides to position the cage about an installation hole in the hollow pole.
- 51. An apparatus as in claim 37, wherein the collapsible cage interlocks with the plate to prevent relative rotation therebetween.
- 52. An apparatus as in claim 37, wherein the collapsed supporting position of the collapsible cage defines a truss inside the pole.
- 53. An apparatus as in claim 52, wherein the collapsible cage is threadedly coupled to the bolt, and has two collapsing members, such that rotation of the bolt in an engaging direction causes the cage to collapse into its truss-shaped supporting position.
- 54. An apparatus as in claim 52, wherein the truss defined by the collapsible cage is substantially perpendicular to the support member, and substantially parallel to and abutting with a wall of the pole.
- 55. An apparatus as in claim 52, wherein the collapsible cage has undercut areas to effectuate proper collapse.
- 56. An apparatus as in claim 52, further comprising a fastener, wherein the collapsible cage is for receiving the fastener, and the fastener is for engaging the support member.
- 57. An apparatus as in claim 56 wherein the fastener is a nut.
- 58. An apparatus as in claim 56, wherein the collapsible cage provides a spacing key, such that a gap is provided along the support member between the remaining head and the bearing plate.
- 59. An apparatus as in claim 58, wherein the object to be attached is a temporary step.
- 60. An apparatus as in claim 58, wherein the object to be attached is electrical equipment.
- 61. An apparatus as in claim 58, wherein the object to be attached is telephonic equipment.
- 62. An apparatus as in claim 58, wherein the object to be attached is pole climbing equipment.
- 63. An apparatus as in claim 58, wherein the object to be attached is lifting equipment.
- 64. An apparatus as in claim 58, further comprising a washer abutting the remaining head of the bolt, such that the gap provided to receive a temporary step is located between the washer and the plate.
- 65. An apparatus for attaching to hollow poles, comprising:
a hollow pole, having a wall and a mounting hole in the wall; a bolt having a shear-away head at one end and a remaining head adjacent thereto; a bearing plate, having an aperture for receiving the bolt; and a collapsible cage, for threadedly engaging the bolt, the cage having undercut portions for bending under axial pressure, such that the cage may be collapsed into a truss, and having positioning keys for maintaining its position relative to the bolt and the plate; wherein the plate receives the cage, and the cage threadedly couples with the bolt, such that the cage may be inserted into a hollow pole, with the plate and bolt head remaining on the exterior of the pole, and the cage may be collapsed by rotation of the bolt, forming a truss parallel to and abutting the interior wall of the pole.
- 66. An apparatus for attaching to a hollow pole having a wall and a mounting hole in the wall, the device comprising:
a support member, with a portion adapted to be inserted into a mounting hole of the pole, and a portion adapted to protrude out of the mounting hole; and a plate, having a hole adapted for receiving the protruding portion of the support member, the hole having a tongue bending away from the face of the plate and adapted to mate with a lower portion of the support member within the mounting hole so as to create a compact fit with the lower portion of the support member.
- 67. A method for attaching objects to a hollow pole, comprising:
making a hole in a pole; inserting a portion of a support member into the hole; placing a mating plate with a tongue over the support member, such that the tongue extends along the support member and into the hole, thereby filling the hole; attaching a fastener to the support member and abutting the plate, securing the plate against the outside wall of the pole and securing the support member in place.
- 68. A method for attaching objects to a hollow pole, comprising:
making a hole in a pole; inserting a collapsible cage through a plate and into the hole; inserting a shear bolt, having a first head and a second head, through the plate and into threaded engagement with the cage; rotating the bolt in a thread engaging direction until the first head of the bolt shears off, leaving the second head, such that the cage is collapsed inside the pole, forming a truss parallel to and abutting the interior wall of the pole; attaching objects in the gap provided between the plate and the second head of the bolt.
