1. Technical Field
The present disclosure relates to a polishing device.
2. Description of Related Art
Polishing devices may include a polishing head made of a plastic material to polish a workpiece. The polishing head may be deformed when positioned at a periphery of the workpiece, thus a peripheral edge of the workpiece polished by the polishing head may collapse. To protect the workpiece, a protecting fixture is employed to shield the edge of the workpiece. However, when the polishing device polishes the workpiece, it also polishes the protecting fixture. The polishing procedure is complicated using the protecting fixture, and the polishing head is worn down easily.
Therefore, there is room for improvement in the art.
The components in the drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale, the emphasis instead placed upon clearly illustrating the principles of the present disclosure. Moreover, in the drawings, like reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The driving member 10 includes a driving body 12, an elastic coupler 16, and a rotating shaft 14 interconnecting the elastic coupler 16 and the driving body 12. The driving body 12 drives the elastic coupler 16 to rotate via the rotating shaft 14.
The polishing head 30 is substantially disc-shaped and is connected to the elastic coupler 16. The polishing head 30 includes a rotating body 32, a buffering pad 34, a plurality of fixing members 36, and an abrasive paper 38. In the embodiment, the rotating body 32 is made of metallic materials and is substantially disc-shaped. A top surface of the rotating body 32 is fixedly connected to the elastic coupler 16 away from the driving body 12. A bottom surface of the rotating body 32 defines a plurality of fixing holes 322.
The buffering pad 34 is substantially disc-shaped and has a diameter substantially equal to a diameter of the bottom of the rotating body 32. The buffering pad 34 is made of plastic material. In the embodiment, the buffering pad 34 is made of polyurethane rubber having a high temperature resistance, high acid corrosion resistance, and alkali corrosion resistance. The buffering pad 34 buffers vibration from the abrasive paper 38 when the abrasive paper 38 polishes a workpiece. The buffering pad 34 defines a plurality of stepped holes 342 corresponding to the plurality of fixing holes 322 of the rotating body 32. The buffering pad 34 can be made of other materials such as rubber.
The plurality of fixing members 36 can be screws for assembling the buffering pad 34 to the rotating body 32. The abrasive paper 38 is a gummed abrasive paper, and a surface of the abrasive paper 38 facing the buffering pad 34 is coated with an adhesive. The abrasive paper 38 has a diameter substantially equal to that of the buffering pad 34.
In assembly, the rotating body 32 is assembled to the elastic coupler 16 away from the driving body 12 via a shaft (not labeled). The plurality of fixing members 36 are received through the plurality of stepped holes 342 and the plurality of fixing holes 322 to assemble the buffering pad 34 to the rotating body 32. The abrasive paper 38 is pasted to the buffering pad 34. When in use, the driving body 12 drives the rotating shaft 14 and the elastic coupler 16 to rotate the polishing head 30, and the polishing head 30 polishes the housing. The elastic coupler 16 and the buffering pad 34 buffer vibration from the polishing head 30 to enhance a polishing effect of the polishing head 30.
In other embodiments, the stepped holes 342 and the fixing holes 322 may be omitted, such that the buffering pad 34 is directly pasted to the rotating body 32. The elastic coupler 16 may be omitted, such that the polishing head 30 is directly fixed to the rotating shaft 14.
The rotating body 32 is made of metallic materials, such that a mechanical strength of the polishing device 100 is enhanced. The buffering pad 34 is assembled to the bottom surface of the rotating body 32. Therefore, the abrasive paper 38 is prevented from deforming, and damage to an edge of the housing is avoided.
Finally, while various embodiments have been described and illustrated, the disclosure is not to be construed as being limited thereto. Various modifications can be made to the embodiments by those skilled in the art without departing from the true spirit and scope of the disclosure as defined by the appended claims.
