Claims
- 1. A poly(benzoic acid) which is a polymer consisting of the recurring monomeric units expressed by the formula ##STR3##
- 2. The poly(benzoic acid) as claimed in claim 1 of which the number-average degree of polymerization is in the range from 30 to 2000.
- 3. A method for the preparation of a poly(benzoic acid) which is a polymer consisting of the recurring monomeric units expressed by the formula ##STR4## which comprises heating a solution of a poly(alkyl benzoate) represented by the formula ##STR5## in which R is an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms and the subscript n is a positive integer in the range of from 30 to 2000, in the presence of an acid or alkali and water to effect hydrolysis.
