Claims
- 1. A dichelant comprising two cyclic polyazaalkane chelant moieties, each capable of complexing a metal ion, said moieties being linked together by an amide or ester moiety, and salts and chelates of said dichelant.
- 2. A dichelant according to claim 1 being a compound of the formula:
- A'--CO--X--L'--X--CO--A'
- wherein each A'--CO-represents a macrocyclic chelant moiety capable of complexing a metal ion, X--L'--X represents an amide or ester linker moiety in which each X represents oxygen or a secondary, tertiary, or ring nitrogen, and the molecular weight of X--L'--X is less than 1000, and salts and chelates of said dichelant.
- 3. A dichelant according to claim 2 wherein the bonds between the A'--CO-- and X--L'--X moieties are amide bonds, and salts and chelates of said dichelant.
- 4. A dichelant according to claim 2 wherein the molecular weight of X--L'--X is less than 500, and salts and chelates of said dichelant.
- 5. A dichelant according to claim 2 wherein the molecular weight of X--L'--X is less than 150, and salts and chelates of said dichelant.
- 6. A dichelant according to claim 2 wherein X--L'--X provides a chain of 3 to 8 atoms in length between the carbonyl carbon atoms to which the X groups are attached, and salts and chelates of said dichelant.
- 7. A dichelant according to claim 1 wherein said chelant moieties comprise 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-N,N',N"-triacetic acid residues or 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane -N,N',N",N'''-tetraacetic acid residues, and salts and chelates of said dichelant.
- 8. 1,8-Bis[4,7,10-tris(carboxymethyl)-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododec-1-yl]-27-dioxo-3,6-diazaoctane, and salts and chelates thereof.
- 9. A dichelate according to claim 1 wherein at least one of said chelant moieties complexes a metal ion.
- 10. A dichelate according to claim 9 wherein said metal ion is a heavy metal ion, a paramagnetic metal ion or a radioactive metal ion.
- 11. A dichelate according to claim 10 wherein two of said metal ions are complexed by said chelant moieties.
- 12. A dichelate according to claim 11 wherein said metal ions are lanthanide metal ions.
- 13. A dichelate according to claim 12 wherein said metal ions are gadolinium or dysprosium ions.
