Claims
- 1. The composition of the formula: ##STR40## wherein: R.sub.2 is H, or an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms and 0 to 2 hydroxyls;
- R.sub.3 is H, or hydroxyl;
- R.sub.4 is H, or forms a hydrolyzable ester or amide with --CO.sub.2 --;
- R.sub.5 are H, or are taken together to form .dbd.NH; and
- R.sub.6 comprises an amine, or a group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms and 1 to 3 amine groups.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein R.sub.2 is H, R.sub.3 is hydroxyl, R.sub.5 are H, and R.sub.6 is amino alkyl.
- 3. A method of inhibiting the activity of neuraminidase comprising the step of treating a sample suspected of containing neuraminidase with the composition of claim 1.
- 4. The method of claim 3 wherein the neuraminidase is in vivo.
