Claims
- 1. A composition comprising an effective radiologically contrast producing amount amount of a radiologic agent and a carrier fro said radiologic agent:
- said radiologic agent comprising a polyiodinated triglyceride analog of the general formula: ##STR7## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are each selected from the gorup consisting of saturated and unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon chains found in naturally occurring fatty acids and 3-substituted-2,4,6-triiodophenyls of the general formula: ##STR8## wherein X is selected from the group consisting of H, NH.sub.2 and NHCOR", R' is selected from the group consisting of H and lower alkyls, R" is a lower alkyl, n is an integer from 0-15 and wherein at least two of said R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are said 3-substituted 2,4,6-triiodophenyls; and
- said carrier comprising a lipid emulsion.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.3 are selected to be said 3-substituted-2,4,6-triodophenyls.
- 3. The composition of claim 1 wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are each 3-substituted-2,4,6-triiodophenyls.
- 4. The composition of claim 1 wherein said lipid emulsion comprises a lipid core containing some triglycerides and a surrounding phospholipid monolayer.
- 5. The composition of claim 4 wherein said lipid emulsion comprises about 10% by weight triglycerides per volume of said lipid emulsion; said triglycerides comprising a selectable combination of said radiologic agent and a naturally occurring triglyceride.
- 6. The composition of claim 4 wherein said phospholipid monolayer comprises phosphatidyl choline.
- 7. The composition of claim 6 wherein said phospholipid monolayer further comprises a sterol stabilizer.
- 8. A composition comprising an effective contrast-producing amount of a radiologic agent and a carrier for said radiologic agent:
- said radiologic agent comprising a triglyceride analog of the general formula: ##STR9## wherein R1, R2, and R3 are each selected from the group consisting of saturated and unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon chains found in naturally occurring fatty acids and iodophenyls of the general formula: ##STR10## wherein X is selected from the group consisting of H, NH2 and NHCOR", R' is selected from the group consisting of H and lower alkyls, R" is a lower alkyl, n is an integer from 0-15 and wherein at least two of said R1, R2 and R3 are said iodophenyls and wherein Y is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen or iodine, wherein at least one Y is iodine; and
- said carrier comprising a lipid emulsion.
