Claims
- 1. An optical grating film, comprising:
- a polymer film, and
- an array of liquid crystal (LC) bubbles dispersed throughout the film, the sizes of said bubbles varying in one direction along the film in a periodic fashion between alternating regions of larger and smaller bubbles so as to form diffraction grating.
- 2. The optical grating film of claim 1 wherein the light scattering by said diffraction grating varies as a function of applied voltage.
- 3. The optical grating film of claim 1, wherein said bubble sizes vary with a periodicity in the approximate range of 10-300 microns.
- 4. The optical grating film of claim 3 wherein the light scattering by said diffraction grating varies as a function of applied voltage.
- 5. A polymer dispersed liquid crystal (LC) film, comprising:
- a polymer film, and
- a plurality of LC bubbles dispersed throughout said film, the sizes of said bubbles varying in accordance with their spatial locations within the film in a periodic fashion through the film.
- 6. A hologram film, comprising:
- a polymer film, and
- an array of liquid crystal (LC) bubbles dispersed throughout the film, the sizes of said bubbles varying in accordance with a periodic holographic interference pattern.
- 7. The holographic film of claim 6 wherein the holographic efficiency of the film varies with the applied voltage.
