Claims
- 1. A polymer constructed mainly of dihydropyridine or dihydrotriazine rings, produced from a cyclization of a compound represented by the general formula
- X--(Z--Y--.alpha.).sub.n
- where n=1 or 2, .alpha. is selected from the group consisting of N.tbd.C--NH--, N.tbd.CO--, HC.tbd.C--; wherein Z is --N.dbd.CH.dbd. or --CH.dbd.N--; wherein X and Y may be the same or different, and each is a member selected from the group consisting of linear and branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkylene radicals, substituted and unsubstituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.24 arylene radicals, and radicals of 4 to 8 member heterocyclic ring structures containing one or more nitrogen or oxygen atoms; wherein when n=2 the Y moeties may be the same or different said polymer being electrically non-conductive.
- 2. The polymer according to claim 1 constituted mainly of (i) dihydropyridine rings which are represented by the general formula ##STR122## wherein; R.sub.1 is --CH.sub.2 -- or ##STR123## R.sub.2 is --H, --CH.sub.3, ##STR124## and each of R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 is --CH.sub.2 -- or ##STR125## (ii) 1,2-dihydro-1,3,5-triazine rings which are represented by the general formula ##STR126## wherein R.sup.11 s are the same or different aromatic residues such as phenylene.
- 3. The polymer according to claim 1, wherein the polymer is obtained by heating at a temperature of from about 120.degree. C. to about 200.degree. C., a compound represented by the general formula:
- HC.tbd.C--Y.sub.1 --CH.dbd.N--X--N.dbd.CH--Y.sub.2 --C.tbd.CH[I]
- wherein; X is --CH.sub.2).sub.m, ##STR127## wherein, m is an integer of 1 to 12 and P is ##STR128## --O--, --CO--, --S--, --SO.sub.2, or ##STR129## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or different and denote each --H, --CH.sub.3, --C.sub.2 H.sub.5, --CF.sub.3, ##STR130## and Y.sub.1 and Y.sub.2 are the same or different divalent organic residues, at 120.degree. C. to 200.degree. C.
- 4. The polymer according to claim 1 having a cross ladder-like molecular skeleton constructed mainly of dihydropyridine rings, which is produced from a Schiff's compound(s) having an ethynyl group at one end of the molecule, said compound(s) being represented the general formula
- X.sub.3 --CH.dbd.N--Y.sub.3 --C.tbd.CH [III]
- and/or by the general formula
- X.sub.3 --N.dbd.CH--Y.sub.3 --C.tbd.CH [IV]
- wherein; X.sub.3 is --H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl, ##STR131## wherein R.sub.1 is --H, --F, --Cl, --Br, --CH.sub.3, CF.sub.3, --OH, --NH.sub.2, ##STR132## and Y.sub.3 is --CH.sub.2).sub.m, ##STR133## wherein, m is an integer of 1 to 12 and P is --CH.sub.2).sub.m, --O--, --CO--, --S--, --SO--, --SO.sub.2 --, ##STR134## wherein, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or different and denote each --H, --CH.sub.3, --C.sub.2 H.sub.5, --CF.sub.3, ##STR135## by heating and reacting the compound at temperatures between 120.degree. C. and 180.degree. C. said polymer being electrically non-conductive.
- 5. The polymer according to claim 1 from a Schiff's compound having a cyanato group at each end of the molecule and plural Schiff's bonds in the molecule, said compound being represented by the general formula
- N.tbd.C--O--Y.sub.1 --N.dbd.HC--X.sub.1 --CH.dbd.N--Y.sub.2 --O--C.tbd.N[V]
- wherein, X.sub.1 is --CH.sub.2).sub.m, ##STR136## substituted phenylene, ##STR137## wherein, m is an integer of 1 to 12 and P is ##STR138## --O--, --CO--, --S--, or --SO.sub.2 --, wherein, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or different and denote each --H, --CH.sub.3, --C.sub.2 H.sub.5, --CF.sub.3, ##STR139## and Y.sub.1 and Y.sub.2 are the same or different divalent organic residues said polymer being electrically non-conductive.
- 6. The polymer of claim 5, which is produced by polymerizing said Schiff's compound under heating at temperatures between 120.degree. C. and 180.degree. C.
- 7. The polymer of claim 5, which comprises dihydrotriazine rings.
- 8. The polymer according to claim 1 from a Schiff's compound having a cyanato group at each end of the molecule and plural Schiff's bonds in the molecule, said compound being represented by the general formula
- N.tbd.C--O--Y.sub.1 --CH.dbd.N--X.sub.2 --N.dbd.CH--Y.sub.2 --O--C.tbd.N[VI]
- wherein; X.sub.2 is --CH.sub.2).sub.m, ##STR140## wherein, m is an integer of 1 to 12 and P is ##STR141## --O--, --CO--, --S--, or --SO.sub.2 --, wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or different and denote each --H, --CH.sub.3, --C.sub.2 H.sub.5, --CF.sub.3, ##STR142## and Y.sub.1 and Y.sub.2 are the same or different divalent organic residues said polymer being electrically non-conductive.
- 9. The polymer of claim 8, which is produced by polymerizing said Schiff's compound under heating at temperatures between 120.degree. C. and 180.degree. C.
- 10. The polymer of claim 8, which comprises dihydrotriazine rings.
- 11. The polymer according to claim 1 having a cross ladder-like molecular skeleton constructed mainly of dihydropyridine rings, which is produced from a compound having an ethynyl group at each end of the molecule and at least two Schiff's bonds in the molecule, said compound being represented by the general formula
- HC.tbd.C--Y.sub.1--N.dbd.HC--X.sub.1 --CH.dbd.N--Y.sub.2--C.tbd.CH[I]
- wherein; X.sub.1 is --(--CH.sub.2 --)--.sub.m (m denotes an integer of 1 to 12), ##STR143## substituted-phenylene, ##STR144## [P denotes ##STR145## (R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or different and represent each --H, --CH.sub.3, --C.sub.2 H.sub.5, --CF.sub.3, ##STR146## (P is as defined above); and Y.sub.1 and Y.sub.2 are the same or different divalent organic residues; by heating and reacting the compound at temperatures between 120.degree. C. and 180.degree. C.
- 12. The polymer of claim 1, wherein said compound is ##STR147##
