Claims
- 1. A catalyst comprising the combination of components which comprises:
- (a) compound of the formula I ##STR7## in which M.sup.1 is a metal of Group IVb of the Periodic Table,
- R.sup.1 is a halogen atom,
- R.sup.2 is a halogen atom,
- R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 independent of one another are hydrogen atoms or C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl groups and at least one air of adjacent radicals R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 on each cyclopentadienyl ring form an aromatic ring with the carbon atoms to which they are bonded,
- R.sup.7 is --M.sup.2 (R.sup.9)(R.sup.10)--M.sup.2 (R.sup.9)(R.sup.10)--
- in which
- R.sup.9 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl group and
- R.sup.10 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl group and
- M.sup.2 is silicon, germanium or tin; and
- (b) an aluminoxane.
- 2. The catalyst as claimed in claim 1, wherein aluminoxane is of the formula (II) ##STR8## for the linear type and/or of the formula (III) ##STR9## for the cyclic type in which
- R.sup.11 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl group and
- n is an integer from 2 to 50.
- 3. The catalyst as claimed in claim 2, wherein R.sup.11 is methyl, ethyl or isobutyl and n is an integer from 10 to 40.
- 4. The catalyst as claimed in claim 3, wherein R.sup.11 is methyl.
- 5. The catalyst as claimed in claim 4, wherein the compound of formula (I) is bis(indenyl)bis(dimethylsilyl)hafnium dichloride or bis(indenyl)bis(dimethylsilyl)zirconium dichloride.
- 6. A process for the preparation of isoblock polymers comprising the polymerization of 1-olefins of the formula R--CH.dbd.CH.sub.2 in which R is an alkyl radical having 1 to 28 carbon atoms in the presence of the catalyst as claimed in claim 1.
- 7. The process as claimed in claim 6, wherein said aluminoxane is of the formula (II) ##STR10## for the linear type and/or of the formula (III) ##STR11## for the cyclic type in which
- R.sup.11 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl group and
- n is an integer from 2 to 50.
- 8. The process as claimed in claim 7, wherein the compound of formula (I) is bis(indenyl)bis(dimethylsilyl)hafnium dichloride or bis(indenyl)bis(dimethylsilyl)zirconium dichloride.
- 9. The process as claimed in claim 8, wherein said aluminoxane is methylaluminoxane.
- 10. The catalyst as claimed in claim 1, wherein said aluminoxane is methylaluminoxane.
- 11. The catalyst as claimed in claim 1, wherein one pair of adjacent radicals R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 form an aromatic ring on each ring with the carbon atoms to which they are bonded.
- 12. The catalyst as claimed in claim 11, wherein the aromatic ring is a six-membered ring.
