Claims
- 1. A plastic article of polyamide at least a portion of which has been contacted with a swelling agent and a plasticizer to render said portion softer or more pliable than the portion of said plastic article which has not been contacted with said swelling agent and said plasticizer, said swelling agent selected from the group consisting of formic acid, acetic acid, cresols, phenols, and chromic acid so as to swell said portion contacted with said swelling agent from about 10% to about 300%.
- 2. The article of claim 1 said portion having been contacted with a solution comprising said swelling agent and said plasticizer.
- 3. The article of claim 2 wherein said solution comprises approximately 2/3 part formic acid and approximately 1/3 part N-butylbenzenesulfonamide, the temperature of said solution being greater than room temperature and less than the temperature at which formic acid dissolves said polyamide during the time contacted and said first portion having been contacted with said solution by immersing said first portion in said solution.
- 4. The article of claim 1 wherein said swelling agent comprises formic acid and said plasticizer comprises a plasticizer selected from the group consisting of N-butylbenzenesulfonamide and N-hexylbenzenesulfonamide.
