Claims
- 1. A homopolymer of the amide compound of the formula: ##STR6## wherein R and R.sup.1 respectively represent a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, A represents --X--(CH.sub.2).sub.n -- in which X represents an oxygen atom or --NH-- and n is an integer of 1 to 6, and m is 0 or 1.
- 2. A copolymer of the amide compound of the formula as defined in claim 1 and another copolymerizable monomer.
- 3. The copolymer according to claim 2 wherein said copolymerizable monomer is an unsaturated organic acid, an unsaturated amide, a mono- or di-olefin, a halogenated mono-or di-olefin, an unsaturated acid ester and an organic nitrile.
- 4. The copolymer according to claim 2 wherein said substituted amide compound is contained in an amount of at least 5% by weight, based on the whole monomer amount.
- 5. A nonlinear optical material being a vinyl polymer having the following pendant group; ##STR7## wherein R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, A is --X--(CH.sub.2).sub.n in which X is an oxygen atom or --NH-- and n is an integer of 1 to 6, and m is 0 or 1, to which an electric field has been applied to orient the pendant group.
- 6. The nonlinear optical material according to claim 5 wherein said application of electric field is conducted by corona-discharging.
