Claims
- 1. A process for the polymerization of olefins, comprising, contacting a first olefin of the formula R1CH═CHR1, a second olefin containing one or more of the functional groups selected from the group consisting of —SiR23, —CO2R3, a nonconjugated ketone, —SO2R7, alkenyl, —C(O)—O—C(O)R4, —C6F5, —OR8, —CO2H, —OH, —CHO, —OP(O)(OR5)2, —BR62, —SR9, —SH, ether, epoxy, and —CONR68R69, and a nickel or palladium coordination compound of
- 2. The process as recited in claim 1 wherein said temperature is about −20° C. to about +80° C.
- 3. The process as recited in claim 1 wherein:
R13 and R16 are each independently hydrocarbyl provided that the carbon atom bound to the imino nitrogen atom has at least two carbon atoms bound to it; and R14 and R15 are each independently hydrogen, hydrocarbyl, or R14 and R15 taken together are hydrocarbylene to form a ring.
- 4. The process as recited in claim 3 wherein R13 and R16 are each aryl or substituted aryl.
- 5. The process as recited in claim 1 wherein one of R1 is hydrogen and the other R1 is hydrogen or n-alkyl containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms.
- 6. The process as recited in claim 1 wherein one of R1 is hydrogen and the other R1 is methyl.
- 7. The process as recited in claim 1 wherein both of R1 are hydrogen.
- 8. The process as recited in claim 1 wherein said blocking group is present.
- 9. The process as recited in claim 8 wherein said blocking group is a quaternary carbon atom, an ester group, an amide group, a sulfone group, tetrafluoro-p-phenylene, a silyl group, a borane group, a carbonate group, or an ammonium cation.
- 10. The process as recited in claim 9 wherein said blocking group is a quaternary carbon atom, an ester group, a sulfone group, or —(CF2)n— wherein n is an integer of 2 to 20.
- 11. The process as recited in claim 10 wherein said blocking group is a quaternary carbon atom bound to four other carbon atoms.
- 12. The process as recited in claim 1 wherein said second olefin is H2C═CH(CH2)qSiR23,
- 13. The process as recited in claim 1 wherein said functional group is —SiR23 wherein all of R2 are chlorine or —OR70 wherein R70 is n-alkyl containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms, epoxide or alkenyl.
- 14. A compound of the formula
- 15. The compound as recited in claim 14 wherein:
T is —(CH2)n— wherein n is an integer of 1 to 6; R71 is alkyl; and each R72 is independently fluorine or trifluoromethyl.
- 16. The compound as recited in claim 14 wherein:
T is —(CH2)n— wherein n is 1; R71 is methyl; each R72 is fluorine; a is 0; and b is 1.
- 17. A copolymer comprising repeat units of the formula
- 18. The copolymer as recited in claim 17 wherein:
R71 is alkyl; each R72 is independently fluorine or trifluoromethyl; and R74 is fluorine, hydroxyl or OM, wherein M is an alkali metal cation.
- 19. The copolymer as recited in claim 17 wherein:
T is —(CH2)n— wherein n is 1; R71 is methyl; each R72 is fluorine; a is 0; b is 1; and R74 is fluorine, hydroxyl or OM, wherein M is an alkali metal cation.
