Claims
- 1. A process for polymerizing olefin(s) in the presence of a polymerization catalyst, a carboxylic acid and a Group 13 metal containing compound
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein the carboxylic acid is represented by the formula:
- 3. The process of claim 2 wherein the polymerization catalyst is a bulky ligand metallocene-type catalyst compound.
- 4. The process of claim 1 wherein the Group 13 containing compound is an organoaluminum compound or organo-oxy aluminum compound.
- 5. The process of claim 1 wherein the carboxylic acid and the Group 13 metal containing compound for a reaction product represented by the formula:
- 6. The composition of claim 5 wherein y is either 1 or 2, M is a Group 2 or 13 metal, Q is a hydroxy group, and R is a hydrocarbyl radical having greater than 12 carbon atoms.
- 7. The process of claim 1 wherein the polymerization catalyst is supported.
- 8. The process of claim 1 wherein the process is a gas phase process and the carboxylic acid is a stearic acid.
- 9. The process of claim 1 wherein the olefin(s) have from 2 to 20 carbon atoms.
- 10. A process for polymerizing olefin(s) in a reactor in the presence of a catalyst system, the catalyst system comprising a bulky ligand metallocene-type catalyst compound and an activator, the process comprising the steps of:
(a) introducing one or more olefin(s) to the reactor; and (b) introducing a carboxylic acid to the reactor.
- 11. The process of claim 10 wherein the catalyst system is a supported catalyst system.
- 12. The process of claim 10 wherein the activator is a Group 13 metal containing compound.
- 13. The process of claim 10 wherein the carboxylic acid is introduced continuously or intermittently.
- 14. The process of claim 10 wherein the carboxylic acid is represented by the formula:
- 15. A process for polymerizing one or more olefin(s) in a reactor in the presence of a polymerization catalyst and a Group 13 containing metal compound, wherein a carboxylic acid is added to the process in an amount sufficient to substantially maintain the polymerization catalyst's productivity.
- 16. The process of claim 15 wherein the reactor is a gas phase reactor.
- 17. The process of claim 15 wherein the polymerization catalyst is a transitional Ziegler-Natta catalyst.
- 18. The process of claim 15 wherein the Group 13 containing metal compound is an organoaluminum compound or an organo-oxy aluminum compound or a mixture thereof.
- 19. The process of claim 15 wherein the carboxylic acid a stearic acid.
- 20. A process for transitioning from a polymerization reaction catalyzed by a conventional-type transition metal catalyst system and a Group 13 containing compound to one catalyzed by a bulky ligand metallocene-type catalyst system, the process comprising the steps of:
(a) discontinuing the introduction of the conventional-type transition metal catalyst system into a reactor having a reactor bed; (b) introducing a carboxylic acid to the reactor; and (c) introducing a bulky ligand metallocene-type catalyst system to the reactor.
- 21. The process of claim 20 wherein the Group 13 containing compound is an organoaluminum compound or an organo-oxy aluminum compound or a mixture thereof.
- 22. The process of claim 20 wherein the carboxylic acid is represented by the formula:
- 23. The process of claim 20 wherein the carboxylic acid is stearic acid.
- 24. The process of claim 20 wherein the amount of the carboxylic acid in the reactor bed is in the range of from 1 ppm to about 2 weight percent.
- 25. The process of claim 20 wherein the bulky ligand metallocene-type catalyst system comprises a support.
