Claims
- 1. The method of polymerizing at least one non-conjugated diolefin defined by the formula ##STR13## where R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are from the group of hydrogen, a lower alkyl group containing up to 4 carbon atoms or an aryl group and R.sub.4 is from the group of a lower alkyl group containing up to 4 carbon atoms or an aryl group, to form homopolymers or interpolymers containing at least 50 mole percent of their repeat units of the structure ##STR14## where R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are defined as before, said polymerization being conducted in the presence of a coordination catalyst, comprising a mixture of (A) halides, oxyhalides or alcoholates of titanium and/or vanadium and (B) organoaluminum compounds.
- 2. The method according to claim 1 in which the nonconjugated diolefin is a mixture of trans-1,4-hexadiene and cis-1,4-hexadiene.
- 3. The method according to claim 1 in which the nonconjugated diolefin is a mixture of 4-methyl-1,4-hexadiene and 5-methyl-1,4-hexadiene.
- 4. The method according to claim 1 in which the nonconjugated diolefin is a mixture of trans-1,4-hexadiene and cis-1,4-hexadiene and the coordination catalyst is a mixture of titanium halides, organoaluminum compounds and hexamethylphosphoric triamide.
- 5. The method according to claim 1 in which the nonconjugated diolefin is a mixture of 4-methyl-1,4-hexadiene and 5-methyl-1,4-hexadiene and in which the coordination catalyst is a mixture of titanium halides, organoaluminum compounds and hexamethylphosphoric triamide.
- 6. The method according to claim 1 in which the nonconjugated diolefin is a mixture of trans-1,4-hexadiene and cis-1,4-hexadiene and the coordination catalyst is a mixture of titanium halides, organoaluminum compounds and diphenyldimethoxysilane.
- 7. The method according to claim 1 in which the nonconjugated diolefin is a mixture of trans-1,4-hexadiene and cis-1,4-hexadiene and the coordination catalyst is a mixture of titanium halides, organoaluminum compounds and tetravinylsilane.
- 8. The method of polymerizing at least one nonconjugated diolefin defined by the formula ##STR15## where R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are from the group of hydrogen, a lower alkyl group containing up to 4 carbon atoms or an aryl group and R.sub.4 is from the group of a lower alkyl group containing up to 4 carbon atoms or an aryl group, said polymerization being conducted in the presence of a cationic catalyst system.
- 9. The method according to claim 8 in which the cationic catalyst is an alkylaluminum dichloride.
- 10. The method according to claim 8 in which the nonconjugated diolefin is a mixture of trans-1,4-hexadiene and cis-1,4-hexadiene and the cationic catalyst is an alkylaluminum dichloride.
