Claims
- 1. A polymer which is characterized by a recurring monomeric unit corresponding to the formula: ##STR24## where R.sup.2 is hydrogen or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group;
- m.sup.1 is an integer of at least 5;
- n is an integer between about 4-20;
- X.sup.1 is --NR.sup.1 --, --O-- or --S--;
- R.sup.1 is hydrogen or methyl; and
- Z.sup.1 is --NO.sub.2.
- 2. A polymer in accordance with claim 1 wherein the polymer exhibita a liquid crystalline phase.
- 3. A thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer which is characterized by a recurring monomeric unit corresponding to the formula: ##STR25## where R.sup.2 is hydrogen or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group;
- m.sup.1 is an integer of at least 5;
- n is an integer between about 4-20;
- X.sup.1 is --NR.sup.1 --, --O-- or --S--;
- R.sup.1 is hydrogen or methyl.
- 4. A liquid crystalline polymer in accordance with claim 3 wherein R.sup.2 is hydrogen.
- 5. A liquid crystalline polymer in accordance with claim 3 wherein R.sup.2 is methyl.
- 6. A liquid crystalline polymer in accordance with claim 3 wherein X.sup.1 is --NH--.
