Claims
- 1. A polyphenylene sulfide composition comprising (A) at least about 55 weight % of a polyphenylene sulfide, (B) a copolymer of ethylene with a glycidyl ester of an .alpha., .beta.-unsaturated acid, which contains 0.1 to 30% by weight, based on the weight of the copolymer, of an epoxy group, and (C) at least one elastomer selected from the group consisting of ethylene/propylene copolymers, which are free of acid anhydride groups and contain 30 to 95% by weight, based on the weight of the copolymer, of ethylene units, ethylene/butene copolymers, ethylene/propylene/diene terpolymers, hydrogenated styrene/butadiene/styrene block copolymers, and copolymers of ethylene with alkyl esters of acrylic acid wherein the mixing weight ratio among the polyphenylene sulfide (A), the copolymer of ethylene with a glycidyl ester of an .alpha., .beta.-unsaturated acid (B) and the elastomer (C) is within a ratio such that the (A)/((B)+(C)) weight ratio is from 70/30 to 95/5 and the (B)/(C) weight ratio is from 10/90 to 80/20.
- 2. A polyphenylene sulfide composition as set forth in claim 1, wherein the polyphenylene sulfide (A) has been washed with an acid and then washed with water.
- 3. A polyphenylene sulfide composition as set forth in claim 1, wherein the polyphenylene sulfide (A) has been washed with hot water maintained at a temperature of at least 100.degree. C., and then washed with water maintained at a temperature of lower than 100.degree. C.
- 4. A polyphenylene sulfide composition as set forth in claim 1, wherein the polyphenylene sulfide (A) has been washed with an organic solvent and then washed with water.
- 5. A polyphenylene sulfide composition as set forth in claim 1, wherein the copolymer of ethylene with a glycidyl ester of an .alpha., .beta.-unsaturated acid (B) is an ethylene/glycidyl acrylate copolymer or an ethylene/glycidyl methacrylate copolymer.
- 6. A polyphenylene sulfide composition as set forth in claim 1, wherein the elastomer (C) is an ethylene/propylene copolymer or an ethylene/butene copolymer.
- 7. A polyphenylene sulfide composition as set forth in claim 1, which further comprises at least one member selected from the group consisting of fibrous reinforcers and granular reinforcers.
- 8. A polyphenylene sulfide composition comprising (A) at least about 55 weight % of a polyphenylene sulfide, (B) a copolymer of ethylene with a glycidyl ester of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated acid, which contains 0.1 to 30% by weight, based on the weight of the copolymer, of an epoxy group, and (C) at least one elastomer selected from the group consisting of polyamide elastomers, ethylene/propylene copolymers which are free of acid anhydride groups and contain 30 to 95% by weight, based on the weight of the copolymer, of ethylene units, ethylene/butene copolymers, ethylene/propylene/diene terpolymers, hydrogenated styrene/butadiene/styrene block copolymers, and copolymers of ethylene with alkyl esters of acrylic acid, said polyamide elastomers being block copolymers having hard segments of a polyamide component selected from the group consisting of (--NH--R.sup.I --CO--).sub.n and (--NH--R.sup.II --NHCO--R.sup.III --CO--).sub.n in which R.sup.I, R.sup.II and R.sup.III are alkylene groups of 2 to 15 carbon atoms or a substitution product thereof, and n is a positive integer, and soft segments of at least one component selected from the group consisting of polyether components and polyester components, the polyether component comprising the formula (--OR--).sub.n in which R is an alkylene group of 2 to 15 carbon atoms or a substitution product thereof, and n is a positive integer, and the polyester component selected from the group consisting of (--OR.sup.I --CO--).sub.n and (--O--R.sup.II --OCO--R.sup.III --CO--).sub.n in which R.sup.I, R.sup.II and R.sup.III are alkylene groups of 2 to 15 carbon atoms or a substitution product thereof, and n is a positive integer, and wherein the mixing weight ratio among the polyphenylene sulfide (A), the copolymer of ethylene with a glycidyl ester of an .alpha., .beta.-unsaturated acid (B) and the elastomer (C) is within a ratio such that the (A)/((B)+(C)) weight ratio is from 70/30 to 95/5 and the (B)/(C) weight ratio is from 10/90 to 80/20.
