Claims
- 1. An amphoteric polysaccharide aldehyde derivative composition comprising:
from about 0.5 to about 25 mole % of cationic groups based on moles of polysaccharide anhydrosugar unit, from about 1 to about 15 mole % of C-6 aldehyde content based on moles of polysaccharide anhydrosugar unit, and from about 0 to about 20 mole % of carboxylic acid content based on moles of polysaccharide anhydrosugar unit.
- 2. The amphoteric polysaccharide aldehyde derivative of claim 1 wherein the polysaccharide aldehyde derivatives are starch aldehyde derivatives.
- 3. The amphoteric polysaccharide aldehyde derivative of claim 1 wherein the polysaccharide aldehyde derivatives are gum aldehyde derivatives.
- 4. The amphoteric polysaccharide aldehyde derivative of claim 1 wherein the polysaccharide aldehyde derivatives are cellulose aldehyde derivatives.
- 5. The amphoteric polysaccharide aldehyde derivative of claim 1 wherein the cationic and carboxyl content provides a net cationic charge.
- 6. The amphoteric polysaccharide aldehyde derivative of claim 1 wherein the polysaccharide is selected from at least one of the group consisting of starch, gum and cellulose.
- 7. The amphoteric polysaccharide aldehyde derivative of claim 6 wherein the polysaccharide is cellulose and the cellulose is a cellulose derivative.
- 8. The amphoteric polysaccharide aldehyde derivative of claim 1 wherein the aldehyde to carboxylic acid ratio is greater than or equal to 0.5 based on moles of polysaccharide anhydrosugar unit.
- 9. A polysaccharide derivative having aldehyde and carboxyl functionality wherein the aldehyde to carboxylic acid ratio is greater than or equal to 0.5 based on moles of polysaccharide anhydrosugar unit.
- 10. The polysaccharide derivative of claim 9 wherein the polysaccharide is starch.
- 11. The polysaccharide derivative of claim 9 wherein the polysaccharide is gum.
- 12. The polysaccharide derivative of claim 9 wherein the polysaccharide is cellulose.
- 13. The polysaccharide derivative of claim 12 wherein the cellulose is a cellulose derivative.
