Claims
- 1. A process for the preparation of silicon nitride-containing ceramic material, which comprises pyrolyzing a polymeric silazane of the formula ##STR5## in which R and R.sup.* may be identical or different and r and R.sup.* are C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, vinyl or phenyl, R' is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, and x and y denote the molar fractions of the two structural units, where x+y=1 and x=0.7-0.95 and wherein each (NH)1/2 denotes a single NH group linked to the Si atom and a second Si atom in an inert atmosphere at 800.degree. to 1400.degree. C.
- 2. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein, in order to produce silicon nitride-containing ceramic fibers, the polymeric silazane is initially dissolved in an organic solvent, and fibers are drawn from this solution and pyrolyzed after evaporation of the solvent.
- 3. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein, in order to produce silicon nitride-containing ceramic shaped articles, the pulverulent polymeric silazane is pressed to form shaped articles before pyrolysis.
- 4. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein, in order to produce silicon nitride-containing ceramic coatings, the polymeric silazane is initially dissolved in an organic solvent, the coating procedure is carried out using this solution, and the coating is pyrolyzed after evaporation of the solvent.
- 5. A process for the production of silicon nitride-containing ceramic fibers, which comprises melting a polymeric silazane of the formula ##STR6## in which R and R.sup.* are ethyl and R' is methyl, and x and y denote the molar fractions of the two structural units, where x+y=1 and x=0.7-0.95 and wherein each (NH)1/2 denotes a single NH group linked to the Si atom and a second Si atom, drawing fibers from the melt at 60.degree. to 100.degree. C., and rendering these fibers unmeltable using air and then pyrolyzing them at 800.degree. to 1400.degree. C. in an inert atmosphere.
- 6. A process for the production of silicon nitride-containing ceramic shaped articles, which comprises melting a polymeric silazane of the formula ##STR7## in which R and R.sup.* are ethyl and R' is methyl, and x and y denote the molar fractions of the two structural units, where x+y=1 and x=0.7-0.95 and wherein each (NH)1/2 denotes a single NH group linked to the Si atom and a second Si atom, processing the melt into shaped articles by casting, injection molding or extrusion, and rendering these shaped articles unmeltable using air or NH.sub.3 and then pyrolyzing them at 800.degree. C. to 1400.degree. C. in an inert atmosphere.
- 7. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the pyrolysis is carried out at 800.degree.-1400.degree. C.
- 8. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the pyrolysis is carried out at 1200.degree.-1400.degree. C.
- 9. A process for the preparation of silicon nitride-containing ceramic material, which comprises pyrolyzing a polymeric silazane of the formula ##STR8## in which R and R.sup.* may be identical or different and R and R.sup.* are C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, vinyl or phenyl, R' is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, and x and y denote the molar fraction of the two structural units, where x+y=1 and x=0.7-0.95 and where each (NH)1/2 denotes a single NH group linked to the Si atom and a second Si atom, in an NH.sub.3 or N.sub.2 /H.sub.2 atmosphere at 800.degree. to 1400.degree. C.
